What is Deku’s new Smokescreen Quirk in My Hero Academia Anime? Explained

The world of My Hero Academia has to boast itself on the growth of its protagonist. While the series started a terribly slow-paced development for Izuku Midoriya, never once did it feel unjust. Today, we witness the anime finally catching up to the manga in regards of Deku revealing his newest quirk. What is it?

We have already seen Deku use The Black Whip along with his One for All. But in the episode preview for the next episode of My Hero Academia Season 6, we see glimpses of Deku in his vigilante form.

Deku’s vigilantism comes after his heartfelt injury in the Paranormal Liberation Front War. Where he witnessed how powerless he can be against the arching nemesis that is All for One.

  • Deku’s running short of quirks, despite having many of the. The episode preview sees Midoriya using the Smokescreen Quirk, inherited from the fifth user of One For All named En.

If you are out of the loop, Deku possesses multiple quirks. That’s a big spoiler alert, but that much is inevitable (like Thanos). The power that Deku actually possesses is actually the power to pass down one’s quirk to the next generation. In some sense, Deku’s power is actually pretty cool, and symbolic.

The symbolism of passing down one’s quirk

The point of Deku’s quirk which he got from All Might reflects a larger symbolism. Basically light could not defeat darkness completely. And had to pass itself down to the future generation. The light here is the original owner of One For All. And the darkness is the mighty villain, (or should I use the word Omnious?) All for One.

The quirk passing is quite incredible of a metaphor. That the fight between light and darkness is often passed down to succeeding generations. The story of All for One is such that his quirk allowed him to take the quirk of others.

He had a younger sibling who was born without any quirk. Whether All For One gifted his brother a quirk out of pity or to give him hell is unknown.

But All for One gave his brother a quirk that could gather physical energy and release it in a burst. That is typically what you see All Might and Deku do when they go United States of Smash. (Do that to your girl).

The point about passing your quirk down in My Hero Academia

  • However, the story gets tricky as it is realized, that the original user of One for All, the brother of the ominous villain actually had a quirk. The quirk was one that allowed the user to pass its quirk down to the next generation.
  • In that a supreme combination was born, almost as fluently as if the work of nature itself. From the relentless chaos was born a super quirk. Which was actually a combination of two quirks – one to garner strength and another to pass that strength down.

The third part of this equation is the fact that every owner of the One for All actually passes their quirk down as well. Deku as it stands has actually 7 quirks.

Well, Deku’s new quirk is not new per se. It was always there he just hadn’t awakened it. The smokescreen quirk is just how it sounds like. Deku can release purple-hued smokescreen that could easily work as camouflage for the enemy. He can hide, blind, and go behind the enemy’s weak spots.

Despite the color being purple in the anime, it isn’t actually poisonous. So you’re safe if you find yourself amidst Deku’s fighting spree and him releasing the gas there. (Hah!).
