In the latest update for Fortnite, the new Ranked Mode was introduced. One of the most beloved modes was removed from the game to make way for this new feature, much to the disappointment of many Fortnite players. After Epic removed the Trios mode from Fortnite, many players hope it will return in a future update. Here’s what we know so far about whether or not the Trios mode in Fortnite will return soon.
What happened to Trios mode in Fortnite?
In battle royale games such as Fortnite, it’s important to have a friend or two who will watch your back as you work your way to the top. As soon as you drop into Battle Island, it’s every man for himself. That is if you’re playing solo. But in the Duos or Trios mode, blasting your way toward that Victory Royale won’t be a lonely journey.

- The first time Trios mode appeared in Fortnite was a few years ago. Epic Games originally planned Trios as a limited-time mode. However, they quickly changed their minds when they saw how popular the Trios mode had gotten among the players.
- Unfortunately, one of the changes in update 24.40 highlights that Trios mode will soon be removed from Fortnite. Whether you play in the Battle Royale or Zero Build modes, players can no longer team up with their Trios starting in update 24.40.
In place of the Trios mode, Fortnite has finally released a Ranked Mode for players to participate in. The introduction of Ranked Mode and different tiers in Fortnite allows both pro and casual players to have enjoyable matches depending on their elo.
- By removing the Trios mode, it will help improve matchmaking in Ranked. If players want to team up with randoms for Ranked Squad, they will have fewer chances of running into problems or long queue times.
The new Fortnite Ranked mode will have Seasons & Seasonal Rewards that are unlocked via Urgent Quests granted each match. Starting with Season Zero.

- It also seems that Fortnite is taking its Ranked Mode seriously. In the future, we may see Fortnite adding exclusive skins to the different tiers in the new mode.
- Ranked Mode supports Solo, Duo, and Squad modes for the Battle Royale and Zero Build modes.
Will the Trios mode ever return in Fortnite?
Many players felt disappointed at Epic Games’ decision to remove Trios mode from Fortnite. They believe Epic should have made a formal announcement before suddenly removing the Trios mode. Furthermore, this sudden change might also affect Fortnite’s competitive scene.
Why Fortnite removing trios???? I ONLY HAVE 2 OTHER FRIENDS

- Most pro players have become accustomed to participating in Trio mode tournaments. Now that it has been removed from the game, this can affect how they prepare or strategize during events like Cash Cups.
- On the other hand, some players felt it was only a matter of time before Fortnite featured a Ranked Mode. Compared to the Arena Mode, playing in Ranked may allow for fairer and more balanced games between players in the same elo.
There are no rumors or official confirmations from Epic Games about the return of the Trios mode in Fortnite. For now, they seem to be dedicating most of their energy to delivering a rewarding Ranked experience for all. However, they can also listen to the community’s feedback to figure out their next steps.
Guess we gotta make another friend…

Who knows, we might see the return of Trios mode in Fortnite during a future update as a limited-time mode. For now, it’s best to try familiarizing ourselves with Fortnite Ranked and climbing up the different ranks by bagging those Victory Royales.
