Congress on Wednesday passed a measure and censured Adam Schiff for spreading allegations that former President Donald Trump illegally joined hands with Russia for his presidential campaign in the 2016 elections. This censure came just a week after the first attempt to press the measure, along with a fine for the same reasons.
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy presided over the largely divided vote among the parties, 213-209, with six Republican representatives votings ‘Present’ along with the Ethics Committee. Due to this step in voting from Republicans, the threshold of the voting decision was lowered.

Following the voting presiding, McCarthy attempted to read the resolution but had to begin again after Democratic filled the chamber and surrounded him. Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi stood in the lead of the chants ‘Shame! Shame!’ and ‘Cowards!’ against the gathering of Republicans.
Some of the Democrats demanded why the same treatment wasn’t extended to George Santos, who faces many charges and accusations of lying to the public. Following this, Eric Swalwell shouted, “You’re weak and pathetic!” towards McCarthy, which erupted Republicans calling, “You’re all Jacka**es!”.
The committee gathering dispersed in two moods of congratulations, handshakes, and back slaps for Republicans’ embraces and chants for Schiff by the Democrats. Such emotionally driven chaos isn’t a usual sight on the House floor following the deadly insurrection in Capitol on January 6, 2021.
Following the announcement, Adam Schiff expressed his sentiments by addressing Republican colleagues through Twitter. “You honor me with your enmity,” he wrote. Further adds that the falsehood flatters him, and it all shows the effectiveness of his actions in defense of democracy. He was additionally accusing them of authoritarian behavior.
Adam Schiff will now face an investigation by the Ethics committee. He may have to face the representative’s questions for his alleged role in aiding and abetting illegal spying on former President Donald Trump.

Netizens react to the news
The citizens of the United States shared their reaction to the breaking news of Adam Schiff’s censure. Some netizens called the act disgraceful, calling him smart and competent in his role. Representative Dan Goldman criticized Republicans calling the rebuke a ‘phony ploy’ and suggesting they focus their attention inwards on George Santos.

On the other hand, Republican supporters congratulated them for the decision and praised them for this feat. Charlie Kirk of the Charlie Kirk Show also congratulated Representative Anna Paulina Luna on refiling her resolution to censure Adam Schiff. He further suggested expelling California’s representative.
The netizens also congratulated Rep Luna, expressing awe that a freshman Congresswoman, seven-month expecting, managed to censure a powerful Democratic leader despite failing during the last appeal. Meanwhile, the opposition ridiculed her name, attributing her decision to faulty thinking abilities.

As such, the internet split with many supporters congratulating the Republican representatives while many opposers condemning them for their decisions.
