World of Warcraft Classic now live; but users are suffering login queues

World of Warcraft Classic

World of Warcraft Classic is now live meaning players can relive what the game was like in its original launch 15 years ago in 2004.

WoW Classic presents players with a version of the game as it was close to its original launch. That means no expansion packs, and far fewer hand-holding features – just the RPG showcasing its purest form.

The classic version is included at no additional cost as part of the WoW subscription globally.

World of Warcraft Classic will continue to expand in the weeks and months following its launch.

Developers Blizzard have initiated a new player management system called Layering which aims to ease out some glitches due to over-population.

However, there have been problems. Blizzard has been quick to address these and issued this statement: “Based on name reservations so far, the Herod realm is looking to be massively overpopulated. If all existing players on this server remain there, login queues in excess of 10,000 players are a certainty, and possibly much higher than that.

“We recently opened up the Stalagg realm, and we urge players on Herod to consider moving there. There are a lot of players currently on Herod and we want Stalagg to fill up before we open any new PvP realms. This is so that player population is spread as evenly as possible before launch, in order to provide the best play experience.”
