NBA: Top 5 fastest players in 2023 | Ranked

BY John Micheal Agustin 2 years AGO 3 MIN READ

Dwyane Wade may have gotten the monicker of “The Flash,” but a lot of players, since he retired, may have taken over that title. Lightning speed and jaw-dropping quickness are just two of the recipes that make a very fast NBA player. Before the 2023-2024 season starts, let’s take a look at who are the 5 fastest NBA players right now.

5. Ja Morant (Memphis Grizzlies)

One of the best young stars in the NBA today makes our list of the fastest players in the league. Ja Morant, the Memphis Grizzlies superstar, is an extremely athletic point guard who can blow by defenders or dunk over even the tallest guys.

Although Morant has been surrounded by controversy lately, there’s no denying that the two-time All-Star is not your average Joe. Moreover, Ja is very light on his feet and can quickly accelerate in transition, making him unstoppable in the fastbreak.

4. Russell Westbrook (Los Angeles Clippers)

Five years ago, we would have put Russell Westbrook at number one. However, at 34 years old, slowing down is inevitable, even for the 2017 MVP.

Westbrook will always be remembered for his heart, dedication, and hustle as a player. However, nobody talks about how fast he is. His signature full-speed layup in fastbreak situations is almost unstoppable. If you can’t catch up to Russ going full-speed ahead, you just have to give up and watch him put the ball in the basket.

3. Donovan Mitchell (Cleveland Cavaliers)

Right now, Donovan Mitchell could be considered the best shooting guard in the league. His nickname “Spida” means more than just having long arms. Mitchell is known for being an elite scorer and has shown it since his Utah Jazz days. But another asset he can be proud of is his speed.

DMitch can run from coast to coast in just a few dribbles and score like nothing even happened. Aside from being unguardable, Mitchell makes it look easy every time he goes down the court.

2. Keon Johnson (Portland Trailblazers)

Those who know Keon Johnson’s raw athletic ability would understand why he is number 2 on this ranking. Even NBA 2k23 acknowledged Johnson’s speed by giving him a rating of 97 (similar to the number one on our list).

The 21st pick of the 2021 draft not only has a very quick first step, but he also boasts a 48-inch vertical.

1. De’Aaron Fox (Sacramento Kings)

If you don’t like that, you don’t like Kings basketball! Sacramento Kings‘ star point guard De’Aaron Fox is by far the fastest and most electrifying NBA player today. Fox is cunning and will smoke everyone who gets in his path and explode his way to the rim. Although his actual sprint speed is unknown, just by looking at him, you could already judge he’s definitely the fastest.

If the NBA creates a highlight video talking about how fast you are, then you’re definitely that guy. At 25 years old, Fox is just entering his peak and can even become faster than ever.
