Samsung Display Launches OBLYX OLED Brand to Power Next-Generation Gaming Laptops

Samsung Display is putting more attention on gaming laptops with the launch of a new OLED brand called OBLYX. The announcement came during the company’s first appearance at Bilibili World 2026 in Shanghai, a major event for gaming, anime, and technology fans.

Rather than introducing a new display technology, Samsung Display is giving its premium laptop panels a dedicated identity that could become more familiar as manufacturers release future devices.

Key Takeaways

Samsung Display has launched a new OLED brand, OBLYX, to specifically target and elevate the gaming laptop market, leveraging the superior visual capabilities of OLED technology.

  • Samsung Display’s new OBLYX brand is a dedicated identity for its premium laptop OLED panels, aiming to become a recognized mark of quality for gamers and consumers.
  • The OBLYX brand name is inspired by obsidian, highlighting OLED’s key advantage of true blacks and high contrast ratios, which are crucial for immersive gaming experiences.
  • Samsung is focusing on the significant growth of the gaming OLED laptop market, particularly in China, and OBLYX aims to provide a consistent, high-quality display standard across various laptop manufacturers.

Brand built for gamers

The company says the name OBLYX is inspired by obsidian, a volcanic glass known for its deep black appearance. That choice reflects one of OLED’s biggest strengths. Since every pixel creates its own light and can switch off individually, these screens produce true blacks, strong contrast, and vibrant colors without needing a backlight. Those qualities have become increasingly important as gaming industry innovations continue to raise expectations for portable hardware.

China played a major role in the launch. Samsung Display selected Bilibili World because the country has one of the world’s largest gaming communities, with around 680 million players. Data from market research firm Omdia shows China’s gaming OLED laptop market recorded a remarkable 1,449% compound annual growth rate between 2023 and 2025.

Global growth reached 405% over the same period, while China’s share of the worldwide market climbed from 4% to 38%. Those figures show why the company is investing heavily in the region as gaming trends continue to favor premium notebook displays.

OBLYX in action

Visitors to the exhibition also had the chance to see Samsung Display’s technology in action. The company built a 300-square-meter booth inspired by Tencent’s upcoming open-world role-playing game Honor of Kings: World. Designed around the game’s Jixia Square, the space featured more than 50 devices equipped with Samsung OLED and QD-OLED panels.

Guests tested the experience on 20 QD-OLED monitors, 12 OLED gaming laptops, and 16 gaming smartphones while comparing OLED and LCD displays side by side. The showcase also highlighted how display technology supports modern game development by delivering smoother visuals and richer colors.

OBLYX panels will initially be available in 14-inch, 16-inch, and 18-inch sizes. Samsung Display says manufacturers can choose refresh rates of 120Hz, 165Hz, or 240Hz depending on the type of laptop they want to build. Every panel is designed to deliver a 0.2ms response time, 100% DCI-P3 color coverage, and OLED’s near-infinite contrast.

Those specifications benefit competitive players, while also providing accurate colors for video editing, entertainment, and other creative tasks. Buyers looking for the best gaming accessories may also see premium displays becoming a bigger selling point alongside faster processors and graphics hardware.

A new quality mark

Unlike Samsung Electronics’ Odyssey monitor lineup, OBLYX is a component brand from Samsung Display. Laptop makers including ASUS, Lenovo, MSI, Acer, BenQ, Philips, AOC, ViewSonic, HKC, InnoCN, iQOO, and Mechrevo can use the panels in their own products. Like Intel Evo or Dolby Vision, the label is intended to signal a consistent level of display quality regardless of the manufacturer.

OLED laptops still cost more than comparable LCD models, while buyers may also consider burn-in protection, brightness, and battery life. Samsung Display believes OBLYX can stand out as gaming industry innovations continue to shape the market. If adoption grows, the brand could become a familiar name among shoppers comparing premium laptops and the best gaming accessories.
