Fortnite Chapter 7 Season 4 Leaks Tease August 20 Launch and ‘Override’ Battle Pass

Fortnite looks set to enter Chapter 7 Season 4 on August 20 with a new Battle Pass and what could become the game’s biggest Gaming Legends crossover yet. Epic Games has not officially unveiled the season, but server schedules, data-mined information and in-game clues all point to the v42.00 update arriving after Chapter 7 Season 3 ends.

The expected launch is already drawing attention among fans tracking the top upcoming video game releases of the month. It also comes as Fortnite continues to shape broader gaming conversations through its seasonal updates.

Override clues continue to build

The current Runners season launched on June 6, reuniting Slone, The Singularity and The Seven while introducing collectible Sprites that grant players unique abilities. It also continued the story after Jones was critically injured during the previous season’s finale and placed in a healing tank at Shaken Sanctuary.

One of the strongest clues for Season 4 is the possible Override title. An in-game announcement for the Starshadow variant of the Voidblade outfit referred to an “Override Battle Pass” instead of the current Runners Battle Pass. Fortnite typically uses the active season name in similar promotions, prompting speculation that Override is the official title. Fortnite News first highlighted the discovery but cautioned the phrase could simply be a promotional reference rather than the season’s official name. The discovery has become one of the more closely watched gaming trends ahead of the next seasonal update.

August 20 remains the target

The current leaked puts the Unstable live event on August 15, followed by Chapter 7 Season 3 concluding on August 19 and Season 4 launching on August 20. According to VICE, players should expect the update after several hours of server downtime. Epic has delayed seasons before, so the schedule remains subject to change.

Unstable is expected to revolve around the Zero Point, the energy source behind many of Fortnite’s biggest story events. Like previous live events, it is expected to reshape the island before the new season begins, continuing Epic Games’ approach to live-service game development.

Promotional artwork for upcoming Gem Sprites also features digital glitches and scan-line effects, reinforcing speculation that Override could centre on a technological takeover or corrupted world. Leaks suggest Sprites will remain in the game, although they may play a smaller role than they do in Runners. The seasonal transition will also be closely watched by players following the latest game releases.

Gaming legends gather pace

The biggest rumours concern a Gaming Legends theme. Sonic the Hedgehog, Dr. Eggman and Mega Man are among the franchises linked with Season 4. Separate leaks have also mentioned Joker from Persona 5, Pac-Man, Tetris and Kingdom Hearts. Dataminers have reportedly uncovered backend references, while players have also discovered a Pac-Man sound effect at Wonkeeland. Epic Games has not confirmed any of the collaborations.

Leaker Blortzen also claims Season 4 will receive updates on September 3, September 17, October 1 and October 15, although that roadmap remains unconfirmed. The reported crossover strategy also reflects how game development increasingly blends established franchises into live-service titles.
