Nvidia recently launched the first assault on Team Red with their new RTX Super line-up to compete with the upcoming 7nm RX 5700 series. But it seems like AMD already had a surprise up its sleeves.
According to VideoCardz, AMD is about to announce a price drop for their upcoming Navi-powered GPUs. [yes, 2 days even before the launch]
They even claim to have confirmed the new pricing with two sources yet. The leaked pricing is as follows:
- RX 5700 XT 50th Anniversary Edition: $449 (previously $499)
- RX 5700 XT: $399 (previously $449)
- RX 5700: $349 (previously $379)

But if we consider it legit for a moment, the aggressive pricing is clearly a slap to the Greeny Bois. Comparing the pricing, the 5700 XT goes at the same price as the 2060 Super, while the 5700 goes with the base 2060.

Moving on to performance, they really blow all the Green right off the table. You may not agree yet, but just wait till you see the benchmark comparisons which is, well…. already here. Yes, all thanks to Benchmark.pl accidentally publishing their 5700 series review a bit too early even before the embargo was lifted. Although they removed it soon, it didn’t stop the benchmarks from being leaked. So here they are:
Clearly, AMD thrashes the competition, leading by roughly 10-15 FPS, which is huge being at the same price point. Even the new $100 more expensive 2070 Super was leading the 5700 XT only by a few FPS, and even losing to it in the Fire Strike test. But we aren’t gonna ignore those Time Spy and The New Colossus tests. The red cards performed rather poorly in these two tests, with even the base 2060 beat the XT version in Wolfenstein. Maybe the new Navi architecture doesn’t yet work too well with Vulkun API, or maybe the data is wrong, we can’t say surely yet.
Next, looking at the power consumption, their new 7nm process has really helped them provide much more performance while consuming lesser power. The XT is seen consuming lesser power than the RX 590, while the base 5700 takes up just as much as the RX 570.
Anyways, take these with a pinch of salt, as benchmark.pl isn’t known too well for being precise with its tests.
If these are accurate, AMD is surely set to throw Nvidia off the table in the upper-mid range as well, while already dominating the budget market with its RX 570 and RX 580. This would make those aiming for ray-tracing really consider if it’s really worth paying for less performance, just to get those shiny reflections.
Now it feels like AMD is really progressing in the GPU market as well while already leading in the CPU field. With their new 7nm family including the 3rd gen Ryzen line-up and the RX 5700 series set to hit the market in 2 days, it seems that exciting times await us!
