Are BLACKPINK Members leaving YG Entertainment? | Contract Renewal Latest Update

BLACKPINK

The drama surrounding BLACKPINK members Jennie, Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé’s contracts continues. Until today, there’s no confirmation if the group will renew their deals with YG Entertainment, with some reports claiming Jennie, Jisoo, and Lisa are allegedly planning to leave the company. This leaves many asking, are BLACKPINK members leaving YG Entertainment? Here’s the contract renewal latest update.

Will the K-pop girl group members separate ways?

After debuting in 2016, BLACKPINK has taken the world by storm, becoming one of the world’s hottest K-pop groups. They have sold millions of albums, made and broken records, and produced several big hits, like Boombayah, DDU-DU DDU-DU, and Kill This Love.

However, after seven years, the group’s contract with YG has officially ended, and until now, there are no words on whether they will renew or not. So far, only one of the four members, Rosé, has renewed her contract with YG.

According to the South Korean news outlet Sports Seoul, Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo turned down YG’s renewal offers and are considering other lucrative offers from other labels. But despite that, they allegedly express their interest in continuing their group activities as a whole.

The Latest News About Their Renewal

To address the issues surrounding BLACKPINK’s contract renewal, YG released a brief statement to clear the air, claiming the negotiations are not yet over.

“Currently, BLACKPINK’s contract renewal has not been confirmed and is being discussed,” it said via Soompi. Officially, the hitmakers’ contracts ended in August. Everyone is now on the lookout for the group’s future after their deals have expired.

Is BLACKPINK Disbanding?

During BLACKPINK’s BORN PINK world tour finale concert in Seoul on September 17, Jennie assured fans that the group would continue amid all the rumors surrounding their contracts. “We will continue to be the BLACKPINK you love,” she said, shutting down the claims that they might disband.

This seems to suggest that even though they may not all sign with YG, they still aim to continue performing as a group. In fact, Sports Seoul claimed that Jennie, Lisa, and Jisoo are in “last-minute discussions” to create a deal that will still see them “separate” but still “together strategy.”

This means that if the other members sign deals with different labels, they can continue working together. YG is said to be offering adjusted contracts so that state members by outside labels can promote BLACKPINK’s group activities for six months out of a year. If this happens, the How You Like That singers aren’t the only ones to follow this practice, as MAMAMOO and Super Junior are already under these terms.

YG Entertainment’s Shares Reportedly Drop

Meanwhile, amid all the claims about BLACKPINK members’ contracts, YG’s shares reportedly dropped 13.28% after three BLACKPINK members allegedly didn’t renew their contracts. According to CNBC, the company closed at 69,200 won per share, its lowest since May 11’s 66,700 won.

BLACKPINK just closed its BORN PINK world tour, which was said to be the largest world tour by a K-pop girl group. YG said the tour gathered 2.11 million people worldwide, spanning 66 performances in 34 cities.
