Australia is a team that never gives the opponent any chance to win. They always try to keep their winning spirit constant. The Sri Lanka team is no more a stronger team in the cricketing world. However, they are trying to make a comeback. The 3rd T20 took place at Manuka Oval, Canberra. Australia won the toss and elected to field first.
The poor batting performance of Sri Lankan batsmen continues.
In a must-win match, Sri Lankan openers blasted 17 runs off the opening two overs in an eye-catching start. But Danushka Gunathilaka got dismissed attempting a scoop shot. After this wicket, the batsmen couldn’t resist the Australian bowlers.
When Sri Lanka was at 40 for 4, Sri Lanka was forced to rebuild through Chandimal and Dasun Shanaka. They both played a match-saving inning. However, Pat Cummins and Adam Zampa restricted Sri Lanka to a lowly 121 for 6 with quick Kane Richardson picking up three wickets.
The target of 122 wasn’t big for the giant kangaroos.
Since With Steven Smith is out with a concussion. Australia tried an experiment by promoting Aston Agar to open as a pinch-hitter. However, this experiment was not successful as Sri Lankan bowlers departed Agar at 13. Moreover, they were back in the game by removing Ben McDermott on the first ball of the innings.
The easy run chase turned into a dangerous one. Glenn Maxwell, the savior, is known for winning matches for Australia. Maxwell holed out to Theekshana in the 11th over but Sri Lanka’s sloppy fielding made sure there would be no late twist. He scored 39 runs.
- Finch played a supporting role with Maxwell. He couldn’t seal the deal as he fell for 35 but Australia soon wrapped up the series in straight sets.
- The Sri Lanka team must figure out their odds on the batting and fielding side to avoid the clean sweep by the kangaroos.
