On December 2, 2023, the pop star attended Variety’s Hitmakers Bruch for her Barbie soundtrack tune “What Was I Made For?” She was going to receive the honor for the film Song of the Year award with her brother Finneas when she was asked about her comments on women going viral.

The star nonchalantly expressed surprise that how come people didn’t know. “Wasn’t it obvious?” she said further confirming that she is part of the queer community. Around a month ago, the star had expressed her attraction towards women in the cover story of Variety.

She had admitted to feeling attracted towards them as people and physically. She also mentioned feeling intimidated by women’s beauty and presence. However, following the confirmation on the red carpet the star has lost over 100,000 followers from her social media account.

Many of her fans came to her defense saying that her romantic preferences are her private matter. Many of them also mentioned that losing 100,000 followers means nothing to a star with massive reach and impact.

The singer responds

Billie Eilish once again responded to her romantic preferences going viral on social media. She uploaded a post with pulled down jeans image featuring a belt with two figures and a caption calling out Variety for ‘outing her.’

She began the caption by expressing gratitude for the Barbie soundtrack award before calling them out for ‘outing her’ on the red carpet. She further added that it was 11 AM and the news portal talked about her liking boys and girls instead of anything else that matters. Lastly, she asked people to leave her alone.

Through the Billie Eilish Variety interviews, netizens have begun discussing how celebrities should have the right to privacy about their romantic preferences. Nobody should feel forced to come out and their boundaries should be respected. Many have also expressed their disappointment in news agencies for asking irrelevant questions on the red carpet.
