Canelo Alvarez Says Ryan Garcia Needs To Be “Disciplined”

Canelo Alvarez, arguably the no.1 pound-for-pound fighter today, calls out the rising star Ryan Garcia on his split with trainer Eddy Reynoso.

Back on February 11, Ryan Garcia announced that he will be parting ways with Reynoso. He then selected Joe Goossen as his new training coach. His reason behind the controversial change is the lack of “time” Eddy Reynoso has with him.

“Eddy didn’t have the time to work 100%. He’s a very busy trainer, and I understand,” Garcia told ESNews.

Canelo Alvarez backs his long-time friend and mentor, Eddy Reynoso on the controversy with Garcia. Alvarez then calls out Garcia regarding these comments saying,

“Eddy has time for all the fighters, you ask everybody. If you’re disciplined, if you have the time to put in the gym and train, Eddy is always gonna be there.”

There were rumors of a rift in their relationship since Reynoso does not have enough time to train Ryan Garcia anymore.

Reynoso is known to have coached Canelo, as well as Andy Ruiz Jr., and Oscar Valdez.

Though Garcia already clapped back at Canelo, saying that “Canelo does not know the facts”, the real reason behind his decision is not really determined. The young fighter said he has more reasons than just Eddy’s lack of time and says he just wants to keep it to himself.

Garcia is set to take the stage once again on April 9, 2022, against the 33-year-old Emmanuel Tagoe. Tagoe is a Ghanian lightweight boxer who is currently ranked 9th in all active lightweight fighters by “The Ring”. It would be understandable if Garcia would need proper coaching and preparation for a huge fight.

Additionally, Garcia’s father and co-coach Henry Garcia said that Ryan also wanted to be independent and build his own brand. He wants to also build his own gym and become a better fighter.
