Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated games of 2023. The sequel to 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Rebirth will continue the epic story of Cloud, Tifa, Barret, and friends on their journey to stop Sephiroth. Based on details revealed in a recent trailer and developer interview, we now have a good idea of which characters will be joining your party in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth. Let’s take a look at who’s been confirmed so far and what we know about their playable status.
Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth: All Characters
Cloud Strife
As the main protagonist, Cloud will of course be a playable character once again. The mercenary-turned-eco-warrior continues his pursuit of Sephiroth while uncovering more about his mysterious past. Fans can expect Cloud’s signature enormous Buster Sword and Limit Breaks in battle.
Tifa Lockhart
Cloud’s childhood friend Tifa also returns as a playable ally. Her martial arts fighting style will likely see some new upgrades, and her knowledge of Cloud’s background provides an emotional anchor for the story.
Barret Wallace
The gruff leader of Avalanche brings his gun-arm and fire magic back to the party. Barret cares deeply for his adopted daughter Marlene, which drives his determination to take down Shinra.
Red XIII
After joining as a guest character in Remake, the wise beast Red XIII finally becomes a full playable member in Rebirth. His unique revenge meter allows for strategic playstyles.
Cait Sith
This fortune-telling cat rides around on the back of a giant Moogle doll. Details are scarce, but the sneak peek confirms Cait Sith will be joining your squad.
Vincent Valentine
Though not outright confirmed, a brief shot in the trailer strongly suggests the brooding gunslinger Vincent will be added to the roster. With his shapeshifting limit breaks, Vincent was a fan favorite in the original Final Fantasy 7.
Yuffie Kisaragi
The hyperactive ninja Yuffie was added as DLC in Remake, but it seems she’ll have a larger role in Rebirth’s main story. Yuffie’s long-range shuriken attacks and stealing abilities make her a versatile damage-dealer.
Sephiroth
The legendary SOLDIER turned destroyer of worlds is not a permanent party member, but the trailer shows Cloud and Sephiroth fighting side-by-side in a scene faithful to the original game. Players will apparently control Sephiroth briefly.
Playable Summons
In addition to human allies, players can call upon magical creatures known as summons to aid them in battle. Confirmed returning summons include Ifrit, Shiva, Leviathan, Bahamut, Fat Chocobo, and more. Alexander and Odin will join the lineup in Rebirth as well.

While story details remain secretive, the expanded roster of playable characters promises even more strategic depth and combat variety compared to Remake. Final Fantasy 7 Remake beautifully modernized the classic RPG formula, and Rebirth looks ready to take it to exciting new heights when it launches in February 2023. Which character are you most looking forward to mastering?
Note: This needs to be taken with a grain of salt as it is based on details revealed in a recent trailer and developer interview.
