First News On Gods & Monsters
Announced at the last E3 during the Ubisoft conference, Gods & Monsters is the newest title developed by the Assassin’s Creed Odyssey development team. Presented as an adventure game in an open world unfolding in the world of Greek mythology. We now know a little more about it.
With a release date set for February 25, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and Google Stadia. For the moment, little information had circulated about the team’s next license behind Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, since its presentation at the E3 last June. All that we knew until now came from brief descriptions and a short trailer. Ubisoft clearly wants to remain very secret and not to reveal too much about its future game. However, the creative director, Jonathan Dumont and the senior producer, Marc-Alexis Côté, have recently spoken on the official blog of producers.
- The idea of Gods & Monsters came to the development team during their work on AC Odyssey. The team wanted to explore Greek mythology in more depth by getting rid of the game specifications of a license such as Assassin’s Creed.
- Dr. Stéphanie-Anne Ruatta, the historian who advised the team on AC Odyssey, is also an expert on Greek mythology. The developers are again using his skills for Gods & Monsters.
- Gods & Monsters has a lighter approach to storytelling. The story unfolds as the legendary bard, Homer (the Iliad and The Odyssey), tells the story to his grandchildren.
- Fights will be fast and will depend on “abilities”. The hero Fényx will use these “abilities” to defeat his enemies but also to cross the environment.
- Typhoon is the central villain of the story. He is a particularly powerful creature, banished by Zeus in the underworld.
- The sex and appearance of Fényx can be personalized. There are also discussions around “armor and equipment” but at this stage, it is still not clear. We do not know yet if Gods & Monsters will have a loot system similar to that of AC Odyssey.
- Fenyx’s statistics can also be personalized, so we could have some mechanical RPGs in this future title.
Thanks to their experience on the Assassin’s Creed license, Ubisoft has shown us the full extent of its talent when it comes to faithfully reproduce cities and times, such as Rome, Ancient Greece or Egypt. Therefore, we are expecting a lot from this next license and we will, of course, inform you as soon as more information is available about Gods & Monsters.
