What happened to Chance Comanche? The G-League basketball player who almost had it all suddenly becomes a man with nothing and no freedom.
A Wildcat becomes a King: Chance Comanche’s basketball career before the murder case
Years before Chance Comanche made headlines as the prime suspect in a sensational murder case, he was carving his way into the basketball pro scene. Comanche was a standout high school player who averaged 20 points, 16 rebounds, and 4 blocks in his senior year in 2015. Although his college stint wasn’t exactly great, he showed glimpses of being a reliable center. He played just two years for the Arizona Wildcats and then declared for the NBA draft in 2017. Unfortunately, Chance would be undrafted.
Shortly after, Comanche tried playing in other leagues like the Drew League and The Basketball League. However, he would find a home in the NBA G-League after finally securing a spot in the Stockton Kings’ roster in the 2022-2023 season. Earlier this year, he got called up by the Portland Trailblazers but only played his first and only NBA game. This season, the 6-foot-11 big man was already playing well as he was averaging better numbers. Before he was released by the Kings, Comanche put up 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.4 blocks per game all while only getting 24 minutes of action.
Vile, wicked, and sinister: The Chance Comanche murder story
Hearing Chance Comanche had everyone on the internet tremble. Who knew that a professional basketball player was capable of taking someone else’s life in just a snap? Well, Comanche did all that, and he was not alone.
Just this November, Sakari Harnden contacted his ex-boyfriend, Chance Comanche, and talked about a plot that would change their lives for the worse. Harnden, 19, and Chance, 27, were already plotting a way to kill a 23-year-old woman named Marayna Rodgers. Rodgers was reportedly working as a medical assistant but was also somehow a “s-x worker”. Chance, Sakari, and an unidentified man whom the police referred to as “Tre” have been discussing everything on a group chat. The text messages would later be revealed and everything they imagined was gruesome. However, Tre would later shy away from their devious plans but Comanche and Harden were still really into it.
In the first week of December, the duo would finally act on their plans as they already had everything in place. Coincidentally, Rodgers and Comanche will be in Nevada as the former will be going on a trip to Las Vegas while the latter has a regular season game against the G-League Ignite in Henderson. Obviously, Harnden would also be present in the area.

On the 5th of December, after Comanche’s basketball match, he and Harnden would then lure Rodgers. Chance Comanche posed as a customer who wanted to get Rodgers’ services. He also told Rodgers that he was into “kinky s-x” and wanted to tie both women. The 23-year-old Marayna agreed after allegedly being offered $1,000 to spend the night with Comanche and another woman. Unknowing to Marayna Rodgers, that would be her last breath. Rodgers went missing for 10 days while her friends and family were already worried sick of her whereabouts.
Almost a week later, on the 14th of December, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Bureau arrested Comanche while the athlete was at the Stockton Kings practice facility. He was later booked in the Sacramento County Jail. Subsequently, after the NBA and the Kings heard about the news, the team would release Comanche. Just four days later, on December 18, Rodgers’ body was found on the side of the road in Henderson, Nevada.
Why did Comanche and Harnden want to kill Rodgers so badly?
Actually, Chance Comanche doesn’t know Marayna Rodgers at all. If it weren’t for Harnden, Comanche would still be playing basketball right now. According to reports, Rodgers spread rumors and implied that Harnden’s current boyfriend is connected to another double-murder case. This prompted a furious reaction from Harnden who immediately wanted her killed.
Surprisingly, it was Comanche who pointed the direction to the cops where he and Harnden hid Rodgers’ body. It was said that they tried burying Rodgers under a pile of rocks. In his trial, Chance Comanche confessed to their nefarious plot and how they murdered Marayna Rodgers. He said he strangled Rodgers with an HDMI cord while Harnden was choking the victim with her own hands. The murder case is still ongoing with Comanche filing for extradition to Nevada, where the crime took place.
