A month later, the hype for God of War: Ragnarok is alive now more than ever. The game takes almost 30 hours to complete, with the main story quests alone. It’s common for games nowadays to feature a New Game Plus (NG+) mode. However, this wasn’t the case for God of War: Ragnarok at launch, much to the disappointment of some fans. So are there details on when a New Game Plus mode will be available in God of War: Ragnarok now that it’s out everywhere? Stay with us to find out more!
All hope is not lost for New Game Plus in God of War: Ragnarok
If you’re feeling pretty bummed about God of War: Ragnarok not having a New Game Plus mode, there’s still a chance for that to come true. To add to that good news, it won’t be long until Santa Monica Studio releases an update including this new mode!
- Our hunch is based on the schedule followed by the 2018 God of War title. Since the previous game didn’t include the NG+ mode at launch, players were skeptical about the mode coming anytime soon. Nonetheless, the NG+ mode got added after over four months since the game launched

- Players unlocked new ways to enjoy the game when God of War 2018 got the New Game Plus mode. Even though they were essentially starting the game from scratch, the NG+ mode offered more content than ever to God of War players
- Players can put themselves up to the challenge in God of War 2018 with the NG+ mode. Here, they can obtain more powerful equipment while also dealing with more challenging enemies. Plus, who could forget those pesky enemies you encounter in Realm Tears found in areas like Niflheim?

- Since the 2018 title got this mode after launch, it won’t be long until God of War: Ragnarok receives the same treatment. Based on how long it took before God of War 2018 got it, we’re looking at an early 2023 release date for the New Game Plus mode in Ragnarok
What to expect in the new mode
If our guess is correct and Santa Monica Studio does release NG+ mode for God of War: Ragnarok, make sure you’re up for the challenge! You may think the enemies in God of War: Ragnarok are tough but wait until you square off against them in New Game Plus. Although the rewards you get will be worth the effort, all good things come to those who don’t quit after Kratos dies the tenth time against an enemy like the Berserkers.

Here is an overview of new content to expect if God of War: Ragnarok adds an NG+ mode soon:
- Higher levels of loot and rewards
- Tougher world enemies
- Increased maximum level for character and upgradable skills
- New/Improved armor sets
Do I need to buy the New Game Plus mode?
Games usually do not require their players to purchase the NG+ mode. This will most likely be the case for God of War: Ragnarok, so you can breathe a sigh of relief now. If you’re curious about how to unlock this game mode, you usually need to complete the main story. Remember, side quests are optional, so you don’t have to beat Gna or King Hrolf Kraki to unlock NG+!

There is still no official announcement from PlayStation or Santa Monica Studio if this is something they are planning. However, we remain hopeful for New Game Plus to arrive in God of War: Ragnarok soon.
