God of War: Ragnarok – Xbox One release date
God of War: Ragnarok has dominated the video game market since its release. The Sony Interactive game became the first ever cross-generation release released worldwide in November 2022 on both PS4 and PS5.
Does this point towards a cross-platform release soon for Santa Monica Studio’s best-selling game? More specifically, can we expect a release date for God of War: Ragnarok on Xbox One? Keep reading to find out.
God of War: Ragnarok on Xbox
Historically speaking, no God of War game has ever been released on any generation of Xbox. And Sony Interactive Entertainment will not be making any exception for God of War: Ragnarok either.

- God of War (2018) was playable on Xbox mainly thanks to streaming of the PC port on Steam and the Epic Games Store which was released in January 2022.
- Interestingly, Xbox executive Phil Spencer had taken to Twitter to express his anticipation for God of War: Ragnarok as well as his regards to Sony for its success.
Congrats to you and the team @SonySantaMonica on the release of a great game. Really looking forward to playing.

PC release date
Most of Sony’s AAA titles, such as Spider-Man and Uncharted, have never received Xbox releases. It’s clear that Sony does not want their competitor’s platform to thrive with their best-selling games.

- However, these titles have received PC releases after their initial launch. God of War (2018) reboot is available on PC.
- It took nearly four years for the 2018 God of War to release on PC. However, the wait is expected to be shorter for Ragnarok as fans anticipate a PC release in 2024.
Game reception and sales
As announced by Sony on Twitter, God of War: Ragnarok became the fastest selling first-party launch game in PlayStation history. It sold over 5.1 million copies in its debut week alone.

- Sales reports suggest that the numbers must have skyrocketed after Sony’s announcement and Ragnarok is on its way to catch up to God of War (2018) as the best-selling game in franchise history.
God of War franchise
The God of War franchise has come a long way since the first original game released in 2005. Kratos started out as a brutal jerk but evolved into a complex character with a lot of depth, much like the PlayStation game itself.

- Overall, the God of War franchise is estimated to have sold around 60 million copies worldwide making it one of the most successful ever.

- On a funny note, the Xbox store does have its own God of War sequel. The game is called War Gods Zeus of Child and is a blatant copy featuring Kratos and a handful of similar-looking characters.
However, it’s safe to assume that God of War: Ragnarok will not be coming to Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, or even Xbox Game Pass.
