  • Tokyo Tower in Shin Megami Tensei V Vengeance is not just a landmark; it’s a battleground filled with powerful demons and valuable treasures. Whether you’re a seasoned player or a newcomer, this quest will test your strategic skills and combat prowess.
  • You’ll face the formidable Drake Hydra and must collect all Miman hidden throughout the tower. This guide will help you prepare for the battle, optimize your team, and ensure you don’t miss any crucial items.

Drake Hydra Battle

Before you charge into battle, knowing your enemy is crucial. The Drake Hydra is weak to Ice and immune to Fire. It’s resistant to Mirage, Confuse, Charm, and Seal, and immune to Poison. With two actions per round and the ability to gain additional Press Turns, it’s a formidable opponent.

Offense Strategy

  • Ice Skills: Equip your demons with Ice skills. If your human companions lack Ice skills, Ice Shards can be a viable alternative.
  • Fire and Dark Resistance: Fuse the Daemon Essence to grant your Nahobino Fire and Dark resistances.

Defensive Measures

  • Fire and Dark Dampeners: These are essential for protecting your team.
  • Amrita Sodas: Keep these handy to cure Poison.
  • Tarunda and Sukunda Skills: Although not necessary, these debuff skills can be very helpful.
  • Healing Skills: Skills like Dia or items like Life Stone Chain are crucial for keeping your team in fighting shape.

Recommended Demons

  • Apsaras: An excellent Ice user.
  • Neko Shogun: Can transfer Fang Breaker (Tarunda-like effect) and Sukunda to other demons.
  • Turdak and Bicorn: Both aren’t weak to Fire or Dark and can use Bufu.

Strategy Against Drake Hydra

  • The Hydra prefers using Frenzy and regular attacks initially. Exploit its weakness to Ice to generate extra Press Turns. Aim for at least eight Press Turns per round. Use the first four offensively and the last four for support, such as applying debuffs or healing.
  • When the Hydra charges Magatsuhi, it indicates an incoming Toxic Breath attack. Use a Dark Dampener to counter this. After the first Toxic Breath, the attack may vary between Toxic and Fire Breath. Adjust your dampeners according to the imminent threat.
  • Heal Poison first whenever possible, as the continual damage can be more detrimental than the Toxic Breath itself. If your team has the necessary resistance, focus on mitigating Frenzy’s damage through healing.
  • As the Hydra loses its heads, you’re nearing victory. It won’t gain new attacks, so maintain your strategy of debuffs and offensive ice attacks. Keep up the pressure, and victory will be yours.

Post-Battle Actions

After defeating the Hydra, you’ll have a conversation with Amanozako and Yoko. Depending on your responses, this will complete The Lay of the Land quest and enable you to fuse Drake Hydra.

  • Gustave’s New Essences: Check out Gustave’s shop for new fusion essences.
  • Aogami’s Request: Speak with Aogami in the Demon Haunt to allocate three stat points as you wish.

Heading North

  • Move north towards Tokyo Tower but don’t forget to head west to find a Climbing Point. Follow the trail to obtain an Amalgam that grants you 50 Glory.
  • Upon returning to the Tokyo Tower structure, head northeast around its east side to meet Goko, who gives you the Return Pillar. This useful item allows you to return to your previous Leyline Fount anytime you wish.
  • Amanozako mentions seeing an angel, starting The Angel’s Trail main quest. Follow the objective marker on your map to continue your adventure.
