The State of Play event for Hogwarts Legacy recently premiered and it gave eager gamers a closer look at the entire game. Hogwarts Legacy’s State of Play showcase also revealed that the game’s release date is sometime around the holiday season this year.
Hogwarts Legacy takes place 100 years before Harry Potter
The game takes place 100 years before Harry Potter and his friends enroll in Hogwarts. In Hogwarts Legacy, players are granted complete customization over their characters. Moreover, they get to choose if their character is a wizard or a witch. But instead of starting as a first year student, the main character is a fifth-year student at Hogwarts.
From the looks of it, the tutorial of the game will serve as an introduction and get players up to speed. Players will also get to choose which House they want to get sorted into. However, it’s unclear as of now whether players need to take a brief test first or if they’re free to choose after creating their character.
Hogwarts Legacy has all the elements of an open-world RPG
The game’s combat system features spells from the world of Harry Potter. Players fight against “creatures corrupted by a magical force” and these creatures range from goblins to fellow wizards and witches. Furthermore, the game gives the players the ability to craft potions and items, upgrade skills, and assign NPCs to their team.
And like other RPGs, players have a “safehouse” within Hogwarts. Aside from the common room, players have access to the Room of Requirement. This area can be customized while players take a break from finishing the main storyline.
Hogwarts Legacy is developed by Avalanche Software. It will be available on PlayStation 4 & 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
