Honkai: Star Rail features different story arcs where Trailblazers get to meet interesting characters. Early in the game, you will find yourself and the others from the Astral Express exploring the cold city of Belobog. As you progress in Honkai: Star Rail, you must face off and defeat powerful bosses such as Cocolia. Here is a guide on surviving and emerging victorious in this Star Rail boss fight. Since she is a story boss, it’s worth noting that this guide will have major story spoilers ahead!
How to defeat Cocolia in Honkai: Star Rail
The first planet you visit while trailblazing is called Jarilo-VI. Activities of Stellaron are what brought your team there, but due to unforeseen circumstances, the Astral Express’ journey is delayed indefinitely. While exploring the snowy plains of Jarilo-VI, your group runs into the Silvermane Guards.
After proving that you and your group aren’t bandits, Gepard leads you to the city’s Supreme Guardian, Cocolia Rand. At first, there is nothing suspicious about Cocolia at all. She trusts the group from the Astral Express, but underneath it all is a sinister force waiting to emerge.

As Trailblazers reach the end of the Belobog arc, Cocolia’s true form is revealed. During this boss fight, you must endure multiple phases while learning to control a new Element with your Trailblazer.
First Phase
The first phase serves as a way to introduce us to Cocolia. The only character you can control is the Trailblazer. During this part of the boss fight, you can only hit Cocolia with Physical attacks now that she is the Mother of Deception.
- A cutscene plays when she strikes the main character with a spear through the chest. Your Trailblazer will then wake up in a strange space. It will take a while to navigate through here as projections of Gepard, Cocolia, and other prominent figures in Belobog appear.
- Listening to their conversations teaches you more about what happened in the frozen city and the threat it is currently facing.

- As you approach the other end of the strange space, you learn that Cocolia abandoned the Preservation.
- After talking with the Guardians’ Will, it’s time for the Trailblazer in Honkai: Star Rail to gain a new path by touching the light of the Amber.
Second Phase
Now that the Trailblazer has received the power of Fire in Honkai: Star Rail, you can defeat Cocolia, Mother of Deception. Your party members will join you for this phase, meaning you won’t have to take down Cocolia alone.
One of Cocolia’s weaknesses is Fire, making your main character highly effective against her. It’s important to note that you should have Lightning and Quantum characters in your party for this boss fight. These two Elements are also highly effective against Cocolia.

Paying attention to her attack pattern is important, as Cocolia can catch you by surprise if you let your guard down.
Cocolia’s attacks in Honkai: Star Rail
The first time you fight against her with a complete party, Cocolia will use lock-on attacks. You need a Shield/Preservation character like March 7th in your party to deflect these attacks. On the other hand, you can also use your main character’s Taunt Skill to draw Cocolia’s attacks onto you.
- Make sure you focus on taunting Cocolia and drawing her attacks away from your allies. This is important as you don’t want to lose your party members during this boss fight. New combat features will be unlocked during this boss fight, so pay attention to how to activate them!
- They are essential in defeating Cocolia, especially the large arm you can summon after earning enough energy.

When you enter the second part of the second phase, Cocolia has an ability that temporarily stuns one of your party members. They can only perform actions once it’s their turn again. Another attack from Cocolia you should watch out for is when she deals AoE damage.
- If you have Preservation characters like March 7th or Gepard, you can use their shield to deflect these attacks.
Weaknesses, tips, and tricks
The best Elements to use against Cocolia are Fire, Lightning, and Quantum. Save up enough Points to perform your characters’ secondary attacks, as these usually deal more damage than your first attack. Some of the best characters that can defeat Cocolia in Honkai Star Rail are the following:
- Serval
- March 7th
- Trailblazer (Fire)
- Natasha
- Himeko
- Seele

Of course, not all the characters listed are available for everyone. Himeko and Seele are five-star characters you can only obtain by pulling on Honkai: Star Rail Warps. Be sure to include the Trailblazer in your current party, so you won’t have trouble defeating the Mother of Deception.
Successfully defeating Cocolia will end the Belobog story arc in Star Rail.
