India vs. West Indies 1st T20: India Won By 6 Wickets

The celebration of the clean sweep in the ODI is not over yet and the most exciting and thrilling T20 series has started between India and West Indies. The 1st T20 took place on 15th February 2022 at Eden Garden, Kolkata.

India won the toss and was elected to field first. The decision to bowl was legitimate and favorable. Since dew was going to affect the game at the latter part.

As usual, the Caribbeans didn’t start off their innings well.

The swing master, Bhuvneshwer Kumar showed his fabulous swings in the 1st over of the game. King was dismissed by Kumar in the 1st over itself.  Thereafter a good partnership developed between Kyle Mayers and Nicholas Pooran for 47 runs. However this partnership didn’t go too far, Chahal strikes in the 7th over and departed Kyle Mayers.

The spinners started to make an impact in the game. Ravi Bishnoi, the Debutant player, took two wickets in quick succession. West Indies were in trouble but a good partnership developed between Pooran and Pollard which help them set a decent target. Nicholas Pooran scored a brilliant half-century. But unfortunately could remain unbeaten, Patel took his wicket in the 18th over. However, the captain did his task and set a target of 157 for 7 for the Indians.

The Run Chase

The target of 158 was a decent one. So India started their innings with the aim to finish it off as soon as possible. Rohit Sharma was in great form. He was dealing with boundaries only. His partner Ishan Kishan was playing well. Their partnership came to an end on 64 as Roston Chase got the wicket of Rohit (40 off 19).

Following his dismissal, India lost three wickets in quick succession in the form of Virat Kohli, Kishan, and Rishabh Pant. However, Surya Kumar Yadav and Venkatesh Iyer played a match-winning knock. India seals the 1st T20 by 6 wickets( 7 balls remaining).
