Including a Secret Cow Level in Diablo games is an easter egg that most players are on the lookout for when a new title drops. Recently, Diablo 4 players think they’re on to something as the search for this particular level in the latest release is still going strong. A new discovery by a patient and courageous player has further solidified the community’s hope of finally discovering where this secret level is in Diablo 4.
What is the Secret Cow Level in Diablo?
A Discord server dedicated to uncovering the location of the Secret Cow Level in Diablo 4 already boasts of over 18,000 members. For context, the Secret Cow Level first appeared in Diablo 2.
Although it wasn’t something the developers planned to include, they had to find a way to uphold the rumor about the first Diablo game featuring a certain cow that, when players clicked on it, would teleport them to another location. Unfortunately, that rumor was false, and there was no hidden level in the first Diablo game.
Everything changed when Blizzard released the second and third games in the franchise. Since it was already a running gag in the community, Blizzard thought it would be even funnier if they actually included a level wherein players would have the chance to fight against supernatural cows.
- In Diablo 2, it was called The Secret Cow Level and could only be accessed by creating a portal with the Horadric Cube. Once you’re inside, you can encounter The Cow King and other hostile cows. However, killing The Cow King will prevent you from creating another portal if you intend to play on the same difficulty.
- As for Diablo 3, Blizzard went with the not-so-discreet name of Not The Cow Level, and here, you can fight against The Cow Queen and hordes of Infernal Bovines. Unlike in the second game, you can create portals to this hidden level as long as you have enough Bovine Bardiches in your inventory.
Moving on to Diablo 4, it has been a few months since its official launch in June, and players have yet to find the Secret Cow Level for this game. Even though the devs have clarified that there is no such level in the fourth installment, the player base is unwavering in their quest to uncover the truth.
The official Discord server makes a pretty big discovery
The most recent breakthrough in the hunt for the Secret Cow Level comes from one of the members of the Discord Server called Grampajoe. Since Diablo takes inspiration from supernatural beings like demons, Grampajoe sets out on a journey to find and slay 666 cows in total. After completing this impressive feat, Grampajoe received a relic, but that wasn’t the end of his quest.
Grampajoe was patient enough to wait several days until he could repeat the process two more times in order to get three relics in total. With all three relics in possession, Grampajoe then went to the Ox statues in Ked Bardu and used the three relics he received from slaying the cows.
The statues rewarded him with a key that unlocked a location called Forlorn Hovel. In this area, you will find more cows that you can slay. Successfully killing all of the cows in Forlorn Hovel gives players a stamina potion, but that’s all that happens in this location.
For now, the investigation on the Secret Cow Level in Diablo 4 has reached a dead end, but that doesn’t mean we should lose hope. Since what Grampajoe discovered is pretty big, there’s no doubt that more and more players are feeling motivated to uncover what Blizzard may be hiding. Who knows, we may have updates on the hidden level in the days or weeks to come.
