Once again, Ja Morant finds himself in stormy waters. For many months now, Morant has been the constant headline of the news. The 23-year-old superstar is in the spotlight again and is already known by everybody for all the wrong reasons. 2023 might not be a year to remember for the electrifying young athlete. Earlier this week, another disturbing video where Ja Morant was spotted flexing his gun created a buzz on the internet. Rumors are spreading that the NBA may suspend Morant for at least half a season (or 41 games). How true is that? Will the Memphis Grizzlies and the NBA punish Ja Morant?
Ja Morant’s latest controversy: Flashing his gun in another IG live stream
Just yesterday, in one of his usual IG live streams, Ja Morant and his friend were just vibing to some NBA Youngboy music. Everything was cool and innocent until suddenly, Ja Morant got hyped and flashed his gun. His colleague quickly removed the focus to the Grizzlies’ point guard, but many people had already seen it. As quick as wildfire, the disturbing video reached millions of fans and haters alike, creating waves on the internet.

Thanks to his actions, Morant is gaining a lot of backlash and hate comments. Some fans are furious, thinking he still hasn’t learned his lesson. Some, however, aren’t taking this incident seriously. Regardless, it will be a tough NBA career for Ja Morant moving forward.
This isn’t the first time Ja Morant was spotted flashing a gun in public
In the first week of March, just a few days after his assault charges resurfaced online, Ja Morant had some fun in Denver. Hours after losing to the Denver Nuggets, Ja Morant was seen partying in a nightclub via his IG Live. In the video, the two-time All-Star can be seen shirtless while rapping along to the background music. Everything was harmless until Ja flashed what seemed to be a pistol.

After the incident, the NBA handed Morant an eight-game suspension, including his days away from the team. Ja Morant then returned to the Memphis Grizzlies lineup on March 23.
Will Ja Morant be suspended?
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Memphis Grizzlies organization decided to suspend Ja Morant from all team activities as of now. On the other hand, the NBA has also stated: “We are aware of the social media post involving Ja Morant and are in the process of gathering more information.”

Meanwhile, there are many rumors that Morant could be suspended for at least half a season. According to Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix, Ja Morant could be looking at a massive suspension. The NBA was lenient the first time by only handing him an eight-game suspension, but this time around, it could be bigger.
Ja Morant was suspended eight games for flashing a gun at a Denver nightclub last March. Safe to assume the punishment this time will be more significant. 15 games? 20? It’s May and the Grizzlies could already be looking at missing Morant for a quarter of next season.

After his latest controversy, Mannix thinks Morant may be out for a significant chunk of the 2023-2024 season. The NBA has made no decision yet, but Mannix and other analysts believe that Ja has a great chance of being sidelined for half a season or even more.
