A lot of NBA fans rejoiced after hearing the news that Memphis Grizzlies are moving on from the controversial Dillon Brooks. Brooks, who averaged 10.5 points in the first round, will be an unrestricted free agent this summer. However, the Grizzlies have already made the choice to not take him back after his playoff performance. There have been talks of Dillon Brooks going to China. But, will this really be the last time we’re going to see Brooks in the NBA?
Memphis Grizzlies decided to part ways with guard Dillon Brooks
According to NBA insider Shams Charania, the Memphis Grizzlies have informed that free agent Dillon Brooks won’t be returning to the team “under any circumstances”.

The team has already notified Brooks about their decision to not re-sign the 27-year-old athlete. Shortly after their disappointing playoff run (a surprising early first-round exit), the Grizzlies parted ways with Brooks. Furthermore, Charania added that Brooks’ attitude and his underperformance during the 2023 NBA playoffs were the main reasons why they decided to let him go. Truly, his antics did not age very well. He has been in Memphis since 2017 and his time with the team has come to an end.
“Dillon Brooks to China”: What’s next for the young basketball star?
Even before the news that Memphis will not be bringing back Dillon Brooks, a lot of his haters have decided the fate of the controversial player. Now that he will become an unrestricted free agent, NBA fans do have a lot to say. Rumors are spreading like wildfire that Dillon Brooks won’t be getting any spot in the NBA, hence the “Dillon Brooks to China” meme.

Despite that, Dillon Brooks is young and a good role player. He is a reliable 3-and-D player, a guy who can shoot the ball and can also be a defensive nightmare on the other end of the court. His abilities are a much-needed commodity for every team nowadays. Plus, even though Dillon Brooks is probably the most hated man in the NBA, a lot of teams would require his basketball skills. He will be an unrestricted free agent in the 2023-2024 season. But, which team do you see Dillon Brooks going to next season?

Statistically, and setting all hate aside, Dillon Brooks is actually a pretty good wing player
In the 2022-2023 season, he averaged 14.3 points on 39.6% field goal percentage while also shooting a decent 32.6% from behind the arc. He did this while also being given the task to guard the opposing team’s best players at times. Today, he has already successfully solidified his role as the NBA’s newest villain. But, in this year’s playoffs, his trash-talking fired back at him. Against LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, he was underperforming and his numbers were down. Top that with getting ejected in game 3 after hitting LBJ in the groin area, everything does not seem to go Dillon Brooks’ way.
Since joining the league, Brooks became notorious for his dirty antics and trash-talking. While almost everybody hates him, he is actually not a bad player. He is somewhat similar to Draymond Green and Pat Beverley. These are just two of the most hated players in history but they have been in the league for a long time now. The only difference is, Dillon Brooks can shoot the ball. That being said, he is more likely to get signed by an NBA team in no time. However, the Memphis Grizzlies might just have made the right decision to not bring Brooks back to the team.
