Jake Paul’s previous matchups
- In January 2020, Paul faced his first opponent, another YouTube star AnEsonGib. Paul had the obvious advantage in the ring. And later on, won in a TKO manner when he knocked down AnEsonGib three times.
- In November 2020, Paul faced Nate Robinson, the three-time NBA Slam Dunk Champion, yes. They are not the main bout but pretty sure you remember this game. Robinson fell numerous times until a second KO happened and the referee called the game off.
- Moreover, in April 2021, he took his career to the next level. Paul had his game going while he took on former ONE welterweight champion, Ben Askren, who was on a losing streak in UFC. This match did great for Jake Paul as he successfully knocked down Askren in less than two minutes coming in the first round.
- With the huge win against Askren, in August 2021, Paul faced another known name from the octagon, former UFC welterweight champion, Tyron Woodley. This match was pushed until the final round and ended in a split decision, where Paul won. A fair decision because he did land more shots than Woodley.
- However, their fight does not end there. In December 2021, Paul would’ve faced Tommy Fury, although the latter had to back out due to a broken rib. Well, Woodley wanted to regain the loss. Two weeks before the final match date of Paul and supposed Fury, Woodley took on Paul. An exciting match where the two throw punches back and forth. Yes, Paul landed one huge swing that knocked out Woodley on the ring.
Anderson Silva’s previous matchups
As fans do probably know, Silva came back to the ring after multiple losses in the octagon in 2020. Silva stands with a 3-1 record in his boxing career. If you’re not updated with the matches that The Spider faced, we got you covered.
- His first match is his first loss: Silva in 1998 in Brazil. After a few years, he went back to the right then took a win by knockout in 2005.
- In June 2021, Silva faced Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in his first professional boxing match after 16 years. He defeated the former middleweight champion, Chavez Jr. in a split decision in Mexico.
- On to the next match in May 2022, the 47-year-old stepped into the ring facing Brazilian boxer, Bruno Machado. He knocked down the latter in the fifth round but extended to the final bell. This is an exhibition match, by the way!
Why is Paul vs Silva different from Paul vs Askren, Woodley?
This is quite a question that would be nice to be answered by analysts and fans of the sports, MMA, and boxing. But, while you’re here, we’ll write a few differences between Paul vs Silva, from Paul vs the two earlier ex-MMA fighters he fought with.
- Let’s first start with the difference that MMA and boxing may be similar, but it does still differ in a way. As for Askren and Woodley, if you have watched a few MMA matches of the two, you can probably say that the floor is their forte — wrestling.
- Secondly, if you compare Askren to the other ex-MMA fighters, you’d pretty much say much the same — he is “out of shape” compared to Woodley and Silva’s weigh-in photos. Although combat sports aren’t heavily based on the physique, somehow it affects how one plays still.
- As we have slightly mentioned above, the two ex-MMA fighters have a base on wrestling, while you may want to differentiate Silva from them. The experience that The Spider has compared to the two is a lot more huge. A seven-year reign as the middleweight champion and is considered one of the best fighters in the octagon. He can fight in the ring, and his speed and movements are great. But given his age (and the other two MMA fighters’ too), we hope he got more up on his sleeves against the 27-year-old Paul.
Will Silva take the dive?
Well, we may have thought about this one for quite a while. We don’t think Silva would take the dive on October 29th. Either way, Anderson Silva would not lose anything as his name is remembered in the world of MMA. Furthermore, if you remember where this ‘take the dive’ came from, you’ve probably watched the Paul vs Askren and Paul vs Woodley matches.
- This ‘took the dive’ rumor had been circulating and addressed by Askren after their match-up on April 2021. He admits that he’s not a really good boxer, and the idea of the match as fixed was ridiculous. Also, in the interview with ESPN, the Bellator champion said, “I got hit. The question I have for those people is, what do I gain by it? I told you guys what I made for this fight. It was a very nice paycheck. I’m also not destitute and poor. What do I gain by that? The answer is nothing. I would actually lose a lot. It’s not something that would ever cross my mind.“
- On the other hand, the ex-MMA contender, Tyron Woodley, talked seriously about this ‘took the dive’ thing days before the August 29th match against Paul. Saying he is taking it seriously. Additionally, he fires back at people who say that he is to throw the match against the YouTuber in an interview with FightHype. “I think the amount of people that know me and know better than to call me and ask me – Am I throwing this fight for money, or is it a real fight, or is it exhibition? Like, I don’t understand why people think in 2021, somebody’s willing to let somebody pay them for a fight when I’ve been nothing but a competitor for 30 years. And it’s kind of offensive. So, to me, I’m like, ‘Alright. Let me show everybody what it’s all about.“
Will The Spider do the same antics against Jake Paul for the sake of entertainment?
- Anderson ‘The Spider’ Silva is known for his risky moves and taunting style. He did this his entire career and it paid off MOST of the time. One notable move that he did was the Muhammad Ali defense where Ali leans on the ropes while defending. Silva, on the other hand, leaned on the cage and waited for his foe to attack while waiting for his opportunity to counterstrike.
- We’re not entirely sure as to what Anderson Silva is thinking right now, but basing it on his skills, we certainly think he can pull this off. It’s his head movement and precision counterstriking that made him different from other MMA fighters. This would definitely be a difficult fight for Jake Paul. Oh, did I mention it’s his first time fighting a southpaw?
- If we talked about the age gap between the two, it is obviously an advantage to Paul and we know that he is the stronger puncher. Anderson Silva had been KO’d by Chris Weidmann before so it is not impossible that if Jake hits Silva, it’s night-night for the spider.
Fans’ reaction to the Jake Paul vs Anderson Silva boxing match
- We saw a Tweet from August 2021 just after the Woodley fight. An MMA fan took things to Twitter addressing Paul’s style of inviting non-boxing players into the ring. Additionally, the other fan talking about Paul taking on opponents that are way past their peak or prime years. Check out the tweets below. Your thoughts on these?
Jake Paul called out a wrestling guy to a boxing match. Ben Askren will tell you that his weakest attribute is boxing. Now he’s got somebody that will bang with him.

Jake Paul is such a scum bag. Continues to cherry pick these older, out of prime, NON BOXERS, to boost his stats. Congrats pal Anderson Silva is a 47 years old.
— Alex Piccinin (@alipiccinin) August 30, 2022
- On the other hand, few fans on Twitter took this news seriously, others into the world of memes, while a few put their bets on the game. You may refer to the Tweets we have found below.
Anderson Silva vs Jake Paul is official Oct 29th. This is wild. On one side Anderson one of the greatest fighters of all time should have no problem beating Jake… but he’s 47 now damn. I know he just beat Chavez Jr though. I’m praying the spider got enough in the tank

- This fan even mentioned Francis Ngannou taking on Jake Paul when Silva loses. And if you don’t know Ngannou, he is considered the hardest recorded puncher in the world. He’s still active in the UFC and the current Heavyweight Champion.
Askren & Woodley couldn’t get it done… and if Anderson Silva loses as well we’re gonna have to say fuck it and send Ngannou to get it done
— Heavyweight Thanos (@FinalXNotices) September 6, 2022
- There is a mixed debate on Twitter on who the fans are rooting for. Nonetheless, The Spider and The Problem Child in the ring is one of the awaited matches for this year, or maybe not. But anyway, catch the game on Showtime’s Live Pay-Per-View, while the bout happens at Gila River Arena in Phoenix, Arizona. Let’s see what happens on October 29th!
That’s it for now, readers! See you in October!
