Japanese Role-Playing Games (JRPGs) developers and publishers released great titles so far this 2022. During winter and spring, JRPGs’ popular titles are Pokemon Legends Arceus, Elden Ring, Monster Hunter 2: Wings of Ruin, and the Final Fantasy Series Games.
As we approach the next seasons, here are the lists of JRPGs, including indie games, western releases, and platform releases, with confirmed released dates for summer and autumn.

Eiyuden Chronicle: Rising
An action-adventure RPG set in the same world as Eiyuden Chronicle Hundred Heroes. It is a story of treasure hunters who chanced upon a town that needs to recover from a disastrous earthquake. Players do not only upgrade their own tools and weapons but the town’s level as well. To be released on 10 May 2022, it will be available on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC.
Prinny Presents NIS Classics
Vol. 2: Makai Kingdom and Vol. 3: La Prucelle
These two titles are classics and fan favorites among Nippon Ichi Software (NIS) games. These are part of the classic game collection which showcases the rich history and culture of NIS. Both are turned-based tactical strategy games with 2.5D graphics. Vol.2: Makai Kingdom is set to be released this 10th of May while Vol 3: La Prucelle is set to be released later on the 30th of October this year. The games can exclusively be played on Nintendo Switch.
Seven Pirates H (Western Release)
Initially Released last August of 2016, Seven Pirates H, as fans demanded, is now ready for a Western Release this coming 12th of May 2022. This exploration, discovery, adventure RPG with a li’l bit of fan service (okay… a lot) is a limited edition and has 4,000 copies only (includes copy number, manual, soundtrack/book, and a sticker set). It was available for pre-order since January 2022.
Maglam Lord (PC Release)
A story of a demon lord Killizerk trying to get her powers back. The artwork and UI is closely identical to Seven Pirates H as both games were developed by Felistella. It was released earlier, February 2022, for Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and it will now be released for PC on 30th May 2022.
June 2022
Metal Max Xeno: Reborn (Western Release)
In a post-apocalyptic setting, Metal Max Xeno: Reborn is an open-world, survival JRPG with vehicle combat aspects. The game was initially released in Japan only last 2020 and will now be available outside Japan this coming 10th of June 2022. It can be played via Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and PC.
Final Fantasy XVI
One of the famous titles, Final Fantasy XVI released date was only speculated due to the Introduction Video of Final Fantasy XVI indicating “Valisthea 06.16” last September 2020’s Playstation Showcase. There are still no official announcements from SquareEnix regarding its actual release date although it is known that it can only be exclusively played from Playstation 5 upon release.
Disgaea 6 Complete
Dood! The game is a story of a Netherworld Zombie who is on a quest to vanquish the God of Destruction. This modern classic will be available on the 28th of June 2022 for the US and EU while on the 2nd of July 2022 for Australia and New Zealand. Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny was exclusive for Nintendo switch which has now transcended to Playstation 4 and 5 as Disgaea 6: Complete.
July 2022
Live a Live Remake
Another classic, Live a Live is a story of seven different characters in their separate geographical location and/or timelines. This turn-based game will be available exclusively for Nintendo Switch on the 22nd of July for its overseas debut.
Digimon Survive
If you are a 90s kid, this series will hit some nerve. It is a story of a group of teenagers lost in camping trip which got warped to a new dimension filled with monsters and adversities. Played in 2D/2.5D, the game will be released on 29th of July 2022 and will be available in Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Part of the Xenoblade series, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set in to two warring nations in which the characters are caught in between all of the chaos. This game seems to be the conclusion of the Xenoblade trilogy which will be released exclusively for Nintendo Switch on the 29th of July 2022.
August 2022
Soul Hackers 2
A sequel to Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, Soul Hackers 2 is in technologically modern society. This turn-based game aims to stop the impending doom of humanity. The game will be available on Playstation 4 and 5, Xbox Series X and S, Xbox One, and PC this coming 25th of August.
September 2022
Monochrome Mobius: Rights and Wrongs Forgotten
In search of his father, the protagonist in the game encounters various difficulties and mysteries. Monochrome Mobius created by Aquaplus, a foundation of the gaming industry in Japan, is a commemoration of the 20th year of the Utawarerumono Series, an adult tactical role-play novel. The turn-based game will be released on the 7th of September 2022 and will be available on Playstation 4 and, and on PC.
The Legend of Heroes: Trails from Zero
A territorial dispute and a fight for political supremacy between two nations. The protagonist tries to deter criminals under a police special force uniform while unknowingly uncovering corrupt doings within their cities. The commerce, culture, and the ambition-focused game will be released on 28 September 2022 and will be available on Nintendo Switch, Playstation 4, and PC.
October 2022
Forspoken
Takeshi Aramaki, the game director, describes the game as a free-flowing, terrain traversing RPG. It is an open-world game based on a girl who got transported to a fantasy world. The game will revolve around the search back home, to reality. Forspoken can be played on Playstation 5 and PC on the 11th of October 2022.
There are still more on the list of upcoming JRPGs although these do not have confirmed released dates yet.
