“We know that many of you are confused with the current media and press coverage. Misunderstanding and accusations have been snow bowling,” FIFTY FIFTY writes to their fans, sharing that despite it, they believe that truth needs uncovering.

  • Addressing the legal dispute with their managing label, they share that they must ‘right the wrongs’ in their relationship. “To protect our music, we had no other choice,” they said, confirming that they will proceed with the lawsuit to overcome confusion and difficulties.
  • Furthermore, they clarify that this action doesn’t mean they accept or admit any of the accusations against them. They simply wish that the trial will show the truth and they will regain their rights. The members concluded the letter by sharing that they want to return in good shape to repay their thankfulness to their fans who have supported them during this difficult time.

FIFTY FIFTY and ATTRAKT legal dispute explained

In June, FIFTY FIFTY filed a lawsuit to suspend their contract with their agency ATTRAKT and the court recommended finding a solution through mediation. However, on August 16, the members returned to the court without reaching any result.

  • The following day, they filed criminal charges against their CEO Jeon Hong Joon accusing him of negligence and embezzlement. The group claimed that ATTRAKT CEO used the revenue gained from the album sales of FIFTY FIFTY to repay the debt of his other company StarCrew Entertainment. He also allegedly managed all the money under the girl group’s agency’s name, breaking their trust and practicing accounting fraud.

  • ATTRAKT previously accused The Givers CEO Ahn Sung II (former in charge of producing FIFTY FIFTY’s music) of pursuing the artists to violate their contracts illegally. The label also filed criminal charges covering fraud, breach of duty, and obstruction of business against Ahn Sung II and employees of The Givers.

  • Simultaneously, Warner Music Korea was rumored to be involved in pursuing FIFTY FIFTY to breach their contract and sign with another agency. Warner Music Korea initially denied all the allegations. However, ATTRAKT CEO later published an audio recording from May of the same year. In the recording, the executive director of WMK asks Jeon Hong Joon about the 20 billion won ($15.3 million approx.) buyout discussed with Ahn Sung II.
  • FIFTY FIFTY will proceed with their lawsuit against ATTRAKT and have refuted all the other claims that have surfaced from the ongoing disputes among various managing labels.

  • FIFTY FIFTY has joined the chart at 27th position joining the global superstars BTS who achieved this milestone a few years ago with their tracks Dynamite and Butter. This achievement adds a silver lining to the future return of the group after the trial.
