Kanye West vs Elon Musk – Why is it trending?

With a long list of controversial statements, rapper Kanye West is back in the news and it’s almost like he never left. Despite his Twitter account being suspended, Kanye exchanged a few unpleasant words with the microblogging platform’s CEO Elon Musk himself.

With a series of Instagram posts and tweets, here’s a rundown of everything Kanye said about Musk and the billionaire’s response to it.

Kanye West’s Instagram posts on Elon Musk

Kanye West took to Instagram with an unprecedented jibe at Elon Musk, questioning his ethnicity as well as his human mortality.

  • Ye claimed Musk was a “half-Chinese genetic hybrid mixed with a South African supermodel.”
  • In the same post, he took a dig at former US President Barack Obama as well.

Elon Musk’s response

Elon Musk was quick to respond to Ye’s Instagram post. He tweeted that he took the half-Chinese comment “as a compliment”.

  • Ye went on to post Musk’s response on Instagram and confirmed that it was indeed a compliment.

Kanye West and Elon Musk’s text screenshots

Before being suspended, Ye shared screenshots of an apparent text conversation with Elon Musk.

  • Musk texted, “Sorry, but you have gone too far. This is not love,” referring to the image of the swastika and Star of David.
  • West replied, “Who made you the judge?”

  • Kanye Went on to post a shirtless photo of Elon Musk in swimming trunks getting hosed down on a boat with the caption, “Let’s always remember this as my final tweet #ye24.”

  • Elon Musk explained why he suspended Kanye West’s Twitter account following the antisemitic Swastika post from the rapper and that he “wanted to punch Ye in his face.”
  • Recently after Elon Musk took charge of Twitter, a user asked him to ‘fix’ Kanye West. The Tesla CEO replied by saying, he did his best on that. However, that didn’t work.

Kanye’s Swastika post on Twitter

Musk’s response came after Kanye West’s Twitter account was suspended and he was banned from the platform for posting an image of a swastika intertwined with a Star of David.

  • He also admitted that he “likes Hitler” in an interview with conspiracy theorist Alex Jones alongside Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes.

The backlash for Kanye’s comments

Kanye had returned to Twitter only a few days ago from a previous suspension, again for antisemitic hate speech. A few months earlier, Ye tweeted that he wanted to go “death con 3 On JEWISH PEOPLE.”

  • President Joe Biden has condemned Kanye West for his recent antisemitic tirade on television where he praised Adolf Hitler and Nazis.

  • Following Kanye’s comments, an official Twitter account for the Republicans deleted an old tweet from October that read “Kanye. Elon. Trump.”
  • Kanye West’s problems started with his Yeezy fashion show in October in which he wore a “White Lives Matter” shirt and later made false claims about George Floyd’s death.
  • Major brands like Adidas and Gap have already severed ties with the rapper. There seems to be no redeeming light at the end of the tunnel for Kanye West’s public image.

Is it too late for Kanye West to restore his status as one of music’s most influential figures?
