Assamese Gamers, it’s your time to fight, and get a chance to represent India at New York this year
ESL is the world’s leading esports company. Every now and then, you’ll see an ESL event happening here and there. Most of their tournaments are online, but that doesn’t stop them from organizing some of the biggest and most reputed LAN events every year. In the last few years, ESL in partnership with India’s own esports company, Nodwin Gaming has been successful in spreading the Esports Fever and taking it to a much higher level. And my dear Assamese friends, this fever… is here!
Nodwin Gaming in partnership with ESL and HyperX is organizing a Street Fighter V tournament namely ‘KO Fight Night‘ from the 28th of July till the 6th of August 2017 to cater to the Fighting Gaming community in India. The offline qualifiers for the same are happening in six cities across India, and Guwahati is one of them!
The winner of each qualifier will gather for the Main Event in Delhi on the 6th of August. Now, let’s talk about the Guwahati Qualifiers.
Why is it Important
Like all other states, Assam has the potential to perform well in the Gaming Field. I have seen dedicated players, big and small, who are ready to give up everything to follow their passion. But I am extremely sad to inform that we lack opportunities. There may be a lot of dedicated and professional gamers here in Assam, but there’s no point in developing skills if there isn’t a platform to show off the same.
I’ve seen quite a few tournaments here in my locality, that attracts people, shows promises, but eventually, all of them fail. Reason? Lack of seriousness and exposure. But complaining won’t move a straw.
Nodwin Gaming is constantly trying to expand the gaming community in India, and reach as many gamers as it can. And fortunately enough, one of their focuses is Assam. With KO Fight Night, they’re trying to build a base here in Assam for future investments. And that’s why it’s important.
We hardly see one or two videogame tournaments in a year or so. But if this initiative goes well, then my friend, get ready to experience many more in the coming future! Even if you aren’t a Street Fighter player, or even if you are not familiar with Fighting games, relax! Most of us are just like you!
You don’t need to be a professional SFV player to participate in the tournament. Just walk in, meet other like-minded gamers, and start a fight! (not physically FYI) Trust me, it’s gonna be a heck lotta fun!
About the Tournament
KO Fight Night is a one-of-a-kind tournament focusing on the fighting games genre and the game Street Fighter V in particular. The tournament will be held in six cities and will also feature an open online qualifier. Only the top player from each of the 6 cities and the online qualifier will then travel to DLF Cyber Hub, Gurgaon to attend the National Finale.
BONUS: The runner-up of last year’s Fighting Game Online Championship will be attending the event too.
The KO Fight Night is a novel property by NODWIN Gaming and ESL India aimed at celebrating the fighting games genre as well as the community within the country. The inaugural edition will focus on CAPCOM’s premier fighting game title, Street Fighter V. Participants will engage in a single-elimination format.
More interestingly, The winner at the Main Event, will get the unique opportunity to represent India at the upcoming “Brooklyn Beatdown” tournament held alongside ESL One in NY.

I live 1000 km away from Guwahati, but trust me, I didn’t want to miss such a great opportunity! I convinced my father into travelling to Guwahati to witness and experience this event. And yes, he accepted!
If you see a sad, depressed kid with blackish-brown and yellow specs, sitting at a corner and playing Clash Royale, do wave a hand! I am sure we can have some energetic discussions! Moreover, I’ll be covering every bit of the event, and once I return home, I’ll publish them on a daily basis. Hope to see you there!
