Konami files new trademark for Silent Hill – new game on the way?
Could we soon be seeing another Silent Hill game very soon? It’s being reported that Konami has filed for a trademark for Silent Hill in Canada.
The trademark doesn’t contain any announcements or statements from Konami. In fact, no information on the filing was given.
For now, a new game is just speculation, but it’s interesting that Konami would file for a new trademark – although it has to be added that the trademark was nearing its expiration date.
The last, and eighth entry in the Silent Hill franchise was Downpour. Developed by Vatra Games and released in 2012, for PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, the game followed Murphy Pendleton, a prisoner stranded in Silent Hill after his prison transport vehicle crashes.
It looked like a new entry into the Silent Hill franchise was being released in 2014 when P.T. was introduced as a playable demo on PlayStation 4.
It was a a first-person psychological horror video game developed by Kojima Productions, under the pseudonym “7780s Studio”, and published by Konami. The game was directed and designed by Hideo Kojima, in collaboration with film director Guillermo del Toro.
Released on 12 August 2014 as a free download on the PlayStation Network, P.T. served primarily as an interactive teaser for the game Silent Hills, a cancelled installment in the Silent Hill series.
After the cancellation, Konami removed P.T. from the PlayStation Store and eliminated the opportunity to re-install the game, a decision that later spawned criticism, fan efforts to allow P.T. to be re-downloaded, and fan remakes of the game.
