The Slumdog Millionaire star Freida Pinto was honored at the 43rd New York Women in Film & Television Muse Awards, where she reminisced about her on-screen journey and expressed her frustration over her experience with Hollywood’s typecasting and lack of diversity.
Fans recently saw her in Netflix’s Intrusion and John Ridley’s Needle In A Timestack. However, according to the star, it wasn’t easy to reach this platform. She had to face many challenges including stubborn stereotypes in her journey.
Freida Pinto experienced unemployment for two and a half years

Speaking at the NYWIFT Awards, Freida Pinto recalled her experience in Hollywood. She criticized the industry for its lack of imagination and diversity. At one point in her career, she shares that she was only offered stereotypical roles that lacked imagination and filmmakers’ willingness to try something new.
This made her frustrated and she declined many roles. She also pointed out that she soon stopped receiving offers after she declined to play certain types of roles. Due to this, she recalls being unemployed for two and a half years.

Apart from the hardships, Freida Pinto also reminisced about being cast in Slumdog Millionaire. She expressed feeling over the moon. Somewhere in her heart, she also felt that landing the role in Danny Boyle’s movie was a manifestation and she was proud of herself.
“I was a rebel. I also went to study at a prestigious college, and directed and produced my plays.”
Further, Pinto states that all she could think about at the time was what she wanted to create and what she wanted to perform. Following, months and months of rigorous auditions and hard work, she finally got a call back from Danny Boyle for Slumdog Millionaire.
Reflecting on her feeling at the time, Pinto added, “I believed that I deserved to be exactly where I was, truly and completely. However, always smiling and grateful.”
Frieda Pinto’s recent work includes the period drama Mr. Malcolm’s List. In which she starred along with Sope Dirisu, Oliver Jackson-Cohen, and Theo James.
The historical drama follows a young woman who plans revenge on her suitor. In the drama, Freida Pinto plays Selina Dalton, who is invited to London by her friend as a ploy to exert revenge on Mr. Malcolm for rejecting her over not meeting his list of ideal qualities.

She also recently visited her hometown Mumbai after three years. Where she attended the launch of Dior’s latest Fall 2023 collection by Maria Grazia Chiuri on March 30.
