MTV VMAs 2023: K-pop groups TXT and Stray Kids Performances | Highlights + Awards

MTV VMAs 2023 Stray Kids and TXT performances

The global K-pop stars TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Stray Kids alighted the MTV VMAs 2023 stage with their power-packed performances. Both the boy groups have also bagged one award each (Stray Kids for Best K-pop and TXT for Push Performance of The Year), creating a memorable night of music, dance, and visuals. Let’s take a look at Stray Kids and TXT’s debut stage performances at MTV VMAs 2023.

Stray Kids makes a grand debut at MTV VMAs 2023 with award-winning S-Class

The eight-member group Stray Kids, including Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N., is debatably the most eye-catching group of this year. They have mesmerized their fans and broken the critics’ expectations with each of their stage performances, such as Lollapalooza Paris 2023.

  • Following this successful streak, they added another historical achievement into their career: their killer debut stage with MTV VMAs 2023. The octet performed their chart-bursting hit S-Class, which also garnered a trophy for Best K-pop earlier in the evening.
  • The performance was led by their dynamic energy choreography and powerful vocals, capturing their freshness and stand-out addictive rhythms. However, it isn’t an unexpected performance from the star group as they have repeatedly exceeded the expectations set by themselves.

  • The truest words to capture the essence of tonight’s performance is perhaps the comment of Stray Kids’ Hyunjin to Billboard earlier this year regarding the reasons for picking S-Class as their title track for album 5 Star:
  • “We ended up choosing S-Class as the title because this was the song that screamed Stray Kids,” Hyunjin commented. He further stated that ‘experimentation isn’t new’ to them because they are always trying to push their boundaries.

TXT won the stage at MTV VMAs with their debut performance of Back For More with Anitta

On the other hand, the Korean five-member boy group, including Yeonjun, Soobin, Beomgyu, Taehyun, and Huening Kai, made their MTV VMAs debut with Latin music star Anitta. The group has steadily grown its discography with youthful dance hits and soulful melodies highlighting their vocal capacities.

  • TOMORROW X TOGETHER earned four nominations this year, including Best K-pop and Push Performance of The Year. While their contemporaries Stray Kids bagged the Best K-pop, TXT won the Push Performance of The Year with their track Sugar Rush Ride.
  • Their stage was expected to rule the night, gifting fans a performance to revisit for years to come. The performance of Back For More, combining the flair of K-pop with Anitta’s roots, forming an irreplaceable performance, did precisely that.

  • Following their mesmerizing performance, TOMORROW X TOGETHER and Anitta will release several versions of their collab track Back For More. As per Billboard, the song is originally a disco track with a groovy base and whistle sounds mixing perfectly with trendy Latin pop music.
  • One doesn’t even need to say how high the expectations for sales after the MTV VMAs performance. Apart from the release of Back For More, TXT is ready to release their third album, The Name Chapter: FREEFALL, in October 2023.
