NBA: DeAndre Jordan Getting Picked up by the Sixers – Yay or Nay?

Right after being released by the Los Angeles Lakers, DeAndre Jordan gets picked up immediately by the powerhouse Philadelphia 76ers. The Sixers released Willie Cauley-Stein in his 10-day contract and signed D.J. for the rest of the season.

The 33-year-old veteran already played for coach Doc Rivers with the Los Angeles Clippers (2008-2017). In there, he became part of the exciting Lob City team comprising of him, Chris Paul, Blake Griffin, and Jamal Crawford.

Before his brief stint with the Lakers, he also played with James Harden and the Brooklyn Nets last season. He was not his usual self with the Lakers and averaged career lows of 4.1 points and 5.4 rebounds.

When James Harden was asked regarding the recent signing of Jordan, he replied with:

“I think he fits in well with us,” said Harden. “He’s a vet that’s been on some really good teams and it feels like he hasn’t accomplished his goal yet as far as winning a championship so he has an opportunity to do it here. The system is pretty easy. Just go out there, rebound the basketball, communicate defensively, and we’ll do a good job of getting him the basketball for some easy dunks, but he has the right mindset.”

What could DeAndre Jordan bring to the table?

D.J. is a 6-foot-11 Center who is a tenacious rebounder and can defend the rim. Though he’s not as effective as he once was, Harden can still give him lob passes every now and then for easy buckets.

He was also a former All-Star and rebounding leader (for two consecutive years) during his prime. His career rebounding average of 10.4 speaks for itself.

D.J. looks washed, but if he plays 12-18 minutes a night, he still can produce decent numbers for a backup center. He can redeem his career once again with the 76ers if he stays healthy.

The Sixers are badly in need of a backup for Joel Embiid for them to push a deep playoff run. While also being a backup, Jordan can also be a great veteran presence on and off the court.
