NBA: Karl-Anthony Towns Takes Home 3-Point Contest Trophy!

Karl-Anthony Towns is arguably the best shooting big man in the NBA at the present. Today, Towns won the NBA Mountain Dew 3-Point contest in Cleveland with 29 points in the final round. He just beat two of the best shooters in the league – Trae Young and Luke Kennard.

Back in the ’90s and early 2000s, Centers weren’t known to shoot a lot of threes. They were seen as muscles down below and the defensive enforcers of the team. Only a few big men were accustomed to shooting from the trifecta during that time. Some of the names that come to mind are Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Garnett, Arvydas Sabonis, and Channing Frye. Today, the league has changed and almost every big man shoots the 3-ball whenever they have the chance.

KAT was already playing at a very high level during his rookie year, where he won Rookie of the Year.

He was drafted first overall back in 2015. At only 26 years old, the Timberwolves Center has drastically evolved to a 3-point shooter. Before he came into the league, Towns was seen as a strong center with great rebounding skills.

A terrific scorer in the paint as well as a lights-out shooter from midrange and three-points. Kat has improved since and has become a threat both inside and outside.

Towns has a career 3 point field goal of 40%, a feat only a few guys have. He is in the top 20 in this category, and surprisingly, he is the only Center to be on the list.

During the 3-point contest, we can see that KAT is wearing her mother’s necklace, which he requested the NBA to allow since wearing a piece of jewelry during contests is prohibited. Just last year, Karl-Anthony Towns lost his mother due to Covid-19 complications. The guy had gone through a lot during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic. Her mother might be gone, but she’s probably smiling from where she is now.

This season, KAT is once again named as an All-Star and will play under Team Durant. He is playing another terrific year with the Wolves and is looking to go to the playoffs.
