Just a few moments ago, MOB Entertainment released a gameplay trailer for Poppy Playtime Chapter 3: Deep Sleep. However, it wasn’t just to showcase what awaits us; it also delved deeper into the game’s lore.
It has been widely spread among Poppy Playtime fans that the toys might be actual human beings. The consensus is that they could be orphaned children, former Playtime Co. employees, or even both! Now the debate is centered around who is behind all this craziness.
One of the main suspects is the founder himself, Elliot Ludwig. After all, he lost his wife through a divorce and experienced what we can assume was the traumatic death of a loved one. Therefore, he dedicated his life to making these toys, potentially being driven into insanity and developing abandonment issues. This led to the creation of these toy experiments for those who dared to leave his company and orphanage.
Is that a human experiment?
At 0:49 of the trailer, a voice explains just how wicked Poppy Playtime 3‘s main antagonist, Catnap, is. It details how it worships the prototype like a god and commits despicable acts against “heretics.”
“The Prototype is his God and this is what he does to heretics.”
At 0:54, a very disturbing experiment is revealed. The creature’s nose looks like a human skeleton, suggesting it might be a former employee. The next scene shows what appears to be an experiment chained up to the wall.
What caught our eye is how human-like it is, except for the fact that it has a toy-looking head. Its limbs and anatomy are very similar to a human. Perhaps it’s an ongoing experiment? This could explain why we were invited back to the toy factory—to put an end to these things.
First look at the Prototype
It’s also not news that many fans and game theorists believe that our character is indeed part of these experiments. How we escaped is still unknown and might be revealed in this chapter or the next if Poppy Playtime continues.
We might be one of the lucky ones who escaped during an experiment or had the chance to flee when things went awry inside the facility. Perhaps Poppy, an employee, or other toy experiments even assisted us in escaping the first time.

Alongside the new trailer, MOB Entertainment posted a note on their X account (formerly Twitter) announcing a delay in the release of Chapter 3.

This demonstrates the team’s dedication to ensuring that Chapter 3 meets fans’ expectations. We assume it will be longer, if not the same length as Chapter 2. The trailer also addressed many fan questions and theories about the lore, raising the question, “Is there more to the story?” One thing is for sure—we can’t wait for this game to drop and find out exactly what is happening inside this toy factory.
