PlayStation Game Pass Is “Inevitable” – Phil Spencer
Sony would be planning its own Xbox Game Pass-style premium service through the combination of PlayStation Plus and PlayStation Now this springtime, according to data provided by Bloomberg in early December. This supposed new system, whose code name is ‘Spartacus,’ has yet to be confirmed by PlayStation.
Meanwhile, Phil Spencer, Xbox’s CEO, has stated to IGN that the presence of services equivalent to Xbox Game Pass is only a matter of time.
“When I hear others doing things like Game Pass or coming to PC, it makes sense to me because I think that’s the right answer. I don’t really look at it as validation. I actually, when I’m talking to our teams, I talk about it as an inevitability.
So for us, we should continue to innovate, continue to compete, because the things that we’re doing might be advantages that we have in the market today, but they’re just based on us going first, not that we’ve created something that no one else can go create.”

Indeed, Spencer thinks that Xbox is on the right track with Game Pass, and he hopes that Sony will succeed with its reported new subscriptions.
Meanwhile…
Similar methods, such as releasing major blockbusters via the subscription service the same day they are released in theaters, have been openly criticized by Jim Ryan, chairman and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, who dubbed the Xbox Game model “unsustainable.”

There is currently no official assurance of the launch of this new subscription service for PS5 and PS4, but it is accurate that Sony has begun to remove PlayStation Now cards from stores and PS3 games on the PS Store, which would correlate to one of the benefits included in one of the subscription’s multiple tiers.
