PS5: Dbrand Designs New PS5 Cases After Sony Lawsuit

Dbrand has released a new variant 2.0 of its famous black cases, which are intended specifically for the PS5. According to reports from VGC, Dbrand was obligated to dismiss its initial concept after receiving a threat from Sony.

The cases that were offered to consumers in February were sold at $ 50 per unit and sold out almost instantly, though Dbrand announced on Saturday that they would no longer be selling them due to a cease and desist letter from Sony’s legal team.

Amidst the legal threat from Sony, Dbrand is not giving up. According to reports, the company has come up with a solution to the legal issue and has revealed the 2.0 cases, promising that they will be protected from potential claims this time.

“While we appreciate all the armchair legal advice that filtered in over the weekend… You can’t successfully sue someone over an alleged ‘design infringement’ without a registered design patent. Sony did not have a registered design patent for the PS5’s side panels when we launched Darkplates. We didn’t think they’d ever get one. They did. Here we are.”

• The fresh cases will be available in matte black, white, and PS1 gray and will cost $70 each.
• The company’s choice to release various shades has reasoning, which is that some people appear to be surprisingly attached to a color palette that is “whiter than West Virginia”.
• The gray color, which is comparable to that of the original PlayStation, is created by combining it with the color of an unnamed vintage console, which is ideal for those who fondly remember the old Sony.
• Lastly, Dbrand asserts that the differences between the new casings are such that Sony has no grounds for an infringement claim.
