Ajinkya Rahane was going through a very bad phase at the international and national levels. He was in great need of some sort of runs.
Everyone has criticized him for his poor form. The 33-year-old had scored just 479 runs in 23 innings at an extremely poor average of 20.82 including just 2 50+ scores. He was also removed from the role of vice-captain from tests. Now Rahane has started playing Ranji to regain his form.
Rahane once again failed to perform well in the South Africa series. He had scored just 136 runs in the three-match Test series at an average of 22.66. According to many, the South Africa tour was Ajinkya Rahane’s last chance to be a part of India’s Test setup.
Mumbai captain won the toss at the Narendra Modi Stadium and decided to bat first.
However, Mumbai was at 44/3 after losing Captain Prithvi Shaw (1), Akash Gomel (8), and Sachin Yadav (19) inside the first 13 overs. Shaw was dismissed by Jaydev Unadkat whereas Chetan Sakariya picked up the wicket of Gomel.
Thereafter, to save Mumbai’s inning Ajinkya Rahane score a century on his comeback in the Ranji Trophy cricket against Saurashtra on Day 1 of their Group D opener at the Sardar Vallabhai Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad on Thursday, February 17. Rahane got to his 36th first-class century in 212 balls for Mumbai.
He got to the 3-figure score with a single. He hit 14 boundaries and a couple of sixes as he was involved in a 150-plus partnership with Sarfaraz, who also got to a hundred in 191 balls, hitting 2 sixes and 11 boundaries.
Moreover, he has been brought by Kolkata Knight Riders in the IPL auction 2022 for 1 crore. Let’s hope that he keeps the form consistent and score run in the upcoming matches.
