The Real Housewives star Kim Zolciak filed an application for divorce from her husband and former NFL star Kroy Biermann. According to the legal documents obtained by TMZ, Zolciak listed April 30 as the date of separation.
The divorce news surprised their fans as the couple was married for 11 years and had four children. The couple is also currently going through some financial troubles with a debt of $1.1 million to the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) for unpaid taxes.
Why is Kim Zolciak separating from Kroy Biermann?
The star of Real Housewives of Atlanta filed for divorce from Kroy Biermann due to their ‘broken marriage.’ Kim Zolciak stated that their marriage is “irretrievably broken and there’s no hope for reconciliation.” She also applied for their children’s primary physical custody and joint legal custody, further requesting spousal support and legal restoration of her maiden name.

Zolciak and Biermann met at a charity event in May 2010 when Kroy Biermann played for the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. They appeared on Real Housewives of Atlanta and officially married on November 11, 2011, at their former estate in Rosewell, Georgia.
They had four children together, Kroy Jagger (11), Kash Kade (10), and twins Kaia Rose and Kane Ren (9). Following their marriage, Kroy also adopted Kim’s daughters, Brielle and Ariana. Previously, Kim Zolciak was married to Daniel Toce from 2001 to 2003, after which they separated.
Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann owe $1.1 million in unpaid taxes to the IRS
Along with the news of Kim Zolciak’s divorce from Kroy Biermann came the news of their pending taxes from a decade ago. They owe $1.1 million to the IRS for due taxes, interest, and penalties from 2013, 2017, and 2018. They also owe $15,000 to the state of Georgia for unpaid taxes from 2018.
According to documents obtained by US Magazine, the former couple’s Manor Golf & Country Club estate in Alpharetta, Georgia, heavily featured on Real Housewives of Atlanta, also entered foreclosure after they defaulted their mortgage.
However, Kim Zolciak and Kroy Biermann refuted the claims via Instagram Story in November 2022. “Alright you guys, my house’s not sold for $257,000,” the TV personality explained while showing off the house. “If you believe I would let my home of millions of dollars go for $257k, [then] you’re an idiot, okay? For real.”
Kim Zolciak’s daughters Brielle and Ariana also denied the reports of their home entering into auction, stating they are still living in the mansion and there are no plans of moving at the moment. Meanwhile, as per the recent update of TMZ, the house went into foreclosure in February 2023.

On Sunday, May 8, Kim Zolciak uploaded a video of her kids Kash, Kaia, and Kane playing in their mansion. Two of her children playfully pulled the leg of their sibling on the staircase while Kim captured the moment.
The former Bravo star also shared a meme on her Instagram account, which read a scenario where an Uber driver asked, “Do you have a man?’ and I said, “I am the man.” The meme is suspected of hinting at Kim Zolciak’s divorce from Kroy Biermann.
