SEGA Removes Sonic Classics Included in Sonic Origins from Digital Stores
There will be no more single copies of the Sonic The Hedgehog classic games on digital stores leading up to the launching of Sonic Origins.
The original editions of the classics featured in Sonic Origins, a collection of the earliest games in the saga, will be pulled out of digital shops, according to a press statement from SEGA. Sonic Origins will be available for $39.99 on June 23. Although there are a few exceptions, Sonic classics will no longer be accessible in their original form.
The digital copies of the standalone titles in Sonic Origins will be withdrawn from the market on May 20, 2022, according to SEGA.
The following games will be removed: Sonic the Hedgehog, Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 & Knuckles, Sonic CD. There are exceptions to this move, but the corporation hasn’t revealed which digital platforms they’ll no longer be available for download.
- You can still play the first two Sonic The Hedgehog games on the Nintendo Switch with SEGA AGES.
- Sonic The Hedgehog 2 will also still be available on Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack using the Sega Genesis controller.
All of the titles mentioned above have received a remastering for Sonic Origins.
It features additions such as the option to play in widescreen (16:9) and infinite lives. They also included high-resolution visuals, new animations, more objectives, and unlockables than ever before. These vary from fresh material to unique levels in the museum, as well as obstacles and a new mirror mode .
Pre-ordering the collection allows you to gain access to bonus content inside the collection. You may also be able to obtain them by purchasing supplemental content (DLC). While this was to honor the 31 years of adventures of the Blue Hedgehog, many fans are criticizing the move.

Reddit users voice out their opinion about Sonic Origin’s paid content.
Sonic Origins will be available on June 23 to PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
