Unexpectedly, after being delisted earlier this month, Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima have made a return on Steam in a select few locations. The publisher, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s sudden decision to require users to link their PlayStation Network (PSN) accounts for both games, upset PC players and led to the games’ departure.
Why Were the Games Delisted?
Sony’s requirement for mandatory PSN account linking, intended for online features, was deemed unnecessary and inconvenient for players in regions without access to PSN. This incompatibility led to the games being pulled from Steam in over 170 countries.
But there’s hope in a recent development. SteamDB reports that Ghost of Tsushima and Helldivers 2 are once again available for purchase in:
- American Samoa
- Guam
- Northern Mariana Islands
- Puerto Rico
- US Virgin Islands
This is noteworthy for two reasons:
- First off, the fact that PSN accounts remain easily accessible in all of these US territories raises the possibility that the initial delisting in these areas was the result of a technical error.
- Second, it gives other impacted regions hope for a future, better solution.
How to Download the Games (if Available in Your Region)
If you reside in one of the listed regions where Helldivers 2 and Ghost of Tsushima are now available, downloading the games is straightforward:
- Open your Steam App.
- Type “Helldivers 2” or “Ghost of Tsushima” on the search bar.
- An option to purchase will show up (if you can play the game in your region). To proceed, click buy/purchase.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to complete the transaction.
- Upon completion of the purchase, the game will be readily available to download in your library.
Reminder: These steps only apply if you are in American Samoa, Guam, Puerto Rico, the Northern Mariana Islands, or the US Virgin Islands due to regional restrictions. The titles are still not available for purchase on Steam at this time for players in other areas.
Disclaimer: Region Switching
Please remember that Steam’s Subscriber Agreement forbids using VPNs or any other method to change your location. It is possible for your account to be disabled, suspended, or closed permanently. Moreover, there is no guarantee that an online purchase made via a VPN will be successful, and there can be security risks because billing address verification could not work as intended.
We recommend waiting for an official wider release or exploring alternative purchasing options that comply with Steam’s terms of service.
