Manny Pacquiao and Conor Benn: A boxing legend versus an up-and-comer
We aren’t reaching, but, almost everybody in the world knows who Manny “Pac-Man” Pacquiao is. In his career, Pacquiao amassed a total of 62 wins, 8 losses, and 2 draws. His power was also unmatched and at some point named the “pound-for-pound king”. In 72 matches, he recorded 39 Knockouts. Furthermore, Pacquiao is the only boxer in history to ever become a champion in 8 different weight divisions. Truly, Pac-Man is one hell of a fighter and even got the nod to be in Boxing Bible’s top 10 boxers in history. At the age of 43, he has already done remarkable things in the sport and will be forever remembered as one of the best to ever step foot in the ring.
On the other hand, Conor Benn, the United Kingdom star is still relatively new to the sport compared to Pacquiao. Benn, who made his debut in 2016, has never lost a fight as he goes 21-0.
Pacquiao and Benn’s recent performances compared
The Filipino boxing legend, Manny Pacquiao, announced his retirement back in 2021 to pursue his candidacy as the Philippines’ president. But, before he hanged his gloves, he fought Yordenis Ugas in August 2021. Although he lost, the 42-year-old Filipino senator managed to give Ugas a run for his money. The bout was extremely competitive that even an “old” and “washed” Pacquiao sustained 12 rounds of heavy beating from the reigning Welterweight champion.
Meanwhile, 26-year-old Conor Benn hasn’t had a fight since April 2022. His last opponent, Chris van Herdeen, faced a new and improved Benn. Herdeen fell to the hands of the British boxer in a 2nd round TKO. This was Benn’s 14th tallied knockout win as he reaches 21-0 and is still undefeated. However, early in his career, nobody thought Conor would become who he is now. Today, his fans think that it’s time for him to reach the next level.
So, can Manny Pacquiao defeat Conor Benn in a boxing match?
Unfortunately, the odds that Manny Pacquiao will come out on top against Conor Benn do not look good. According to an AI website called Martial Bot, “there is no way Manny Pacquiao wins this fight. Pacquiao will need a miracle to beat Conor Benn”. They also made a computation for the odds and what came out was heavily in favor of Benn, 86-14. Furthermore, betting sites like Bet US have already placed the betting odds for a possible Pacquiao-Benn fight. The British fighter is still favored to win with a -230 while the Filipino star has a +160 on his name.
It may be because Conor is younger and obviously stronger, bigger, and taller compared to Pacquiao. Plus, he has had a higher KO percentage than the Filipino legend. However, Pacquiao is arguably the toughest lefty in the game. Although he will be 44 years old by the time they fight, his team believes that he still has a lot of gas left in his tank.
The match between Manny Pacquiao and Conor Benn is reportedly set to take place this coming June 3 in Abu Dhabi, UAE. If the fight does not come through, Benn’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, believes Benn could fight Kell Brooks or Chris Eubank Jr.
