How Samar Studio’s The Front introduces a whole new experience to open-world survival games
Samar Studio took us on a rollercoaster ride with the official trailer for The Front. At first, it’s easy to think that the game will just focus on surviving in the open-world map swarming with deadly zombies who want to eat your brains out. However, going further into the 3-minute trailer shows that The Front offers an entirely different survival experience in its open-world map.
Samar Studio has decided to combine the best features from popular survival titles like DayZ and Rust to create The Front.
- Similar to DayZ, it takes place in a post-apocalyptic sandbox completely overrun by all kinds of dangers. You must fight against hordes of zombie-mutants while watching your back for any hostile humans who want to expand their territory. Of course, there’s also the possibility that they like causing chaos, rampage, and bloodshed. Given the world’s harsh conditions in The Front, you need to either kill or be killed.
The Front also features elements of time travel in its storyline. The game’s setting is in an alternate reality invaded by a tyrannical empire hellbent on putting their global “citizen” policy in place. Humans must band together to stop the empire from taking over and fix it before it’s too late.
- Players can use time travel technology to go back in the past and rewrite history as they know it.
- While doing so, they can run into different challenges the evil empire poses.
All Features in The Front
Open World Map
The open-world map in The Front boasts a size of 36km². Samar Studio shared that the game’s map features different kinds of biomes, like forests and deserts.
- Each biome will have its ecosystem, allowing players to gather various resources to aid them in other parts of the game.
- The environment in the game is also reportedly going to feature a realistic day and night cycle.
- There will also be different types of weather in The Front. Among these are thunderstorms and blizzards that can put your character at risk.
- Throughout the open-world map, you can also run into trouble in the shape of formidable enemies. Some of these enemies have unique characteristics, like having high HP or unleashing toxic clouds to wear your defenses down.
Base-Building
Aside from taking down zombie-mutants or fighting off hostile humans, The Front also focuses on base-building mechanics. It would be best to put up defenses that would easily repel anything threatening you or your faction.
- There are over 400+ tech formulas to learn, each aimed at helping you survive and outlive your enemies.
- As for constructing the perfect base, the game features 30 types of basic building modules. Almost 100 functional components will be helpful to you as you build the ideal community for your base. One that is safe and provides everything you’ll ever need to live.
- To strengthen your defenses, The Front has 20+ kinds of defenses and traps used to stop hostile humans or zombie-mutants from taking over your community. These defenses include simple traps like poison gas and more advanced ones like electrical devices that would shock intruders.
Realistic Gameplay
The Front is worth checking out for those looking for realistic survival games. While there are external threats to your safety, the game will also have internal threats to every player. These are survival indices you need to watch over as you play. Some of the challenges you’ll face are the following:

According to the official website, The Front will be released on 10/11/2023. Its closed beta test ran from September 3rd to September 8th, so it’s exciting to see everything the game has to offer once it launches.
