TWICE ‘READY TO BE’ Album has Fans Complaining about its Songs’ Length

‘Set Them Free’ TWICE ‘READY TO BE’ Album has Fans Complaining about its Songs’ Length

K-Pop girl group TWICE has been dominating the industry since its debut in 2015. With hit after hit, they have proven to be K-pop superstars globally. They captivate fans all over the world with their catchy tunes and powerful performances. On March 10, 2023, TWICE released their latest comeback, “READY TO BE,” featuring the title track “SET ME FREE.” However, some ONCEs discussed the length of the songs on the album and their complaint about it.

This 12th mini album of TWICE continues to break records for the group. The third-generation girl group has remained impactful on the industry in their over seven years together! But right, we miss longer songs, and here’s every piece of information we got about this ONCEs’ complaint.

TWICE ‘READY TO BE’: Short Songs, Big Impact

Out of the seven songs on the newest album comeback, only two of them reach the three-minute mark: “SET ME FREE,” both the Korean and English versions and “MOONLIGHT SUNRISE.” These two songs also happen to be the ones with music videos. Also, both tracks barely reached three minutes, 3:01 and 3:00, respectively.

The other four songs on the album range from 2:40 to 2:56 minutes long, making the entire album only about 20 and a half minutes long. Now here enters the complaint of ONCEs.

  • While the album and its tracks were loved and well-received, this realization of how short the songs are led to a post being made on the K-Pop Thoughts on Reddit to open this for discussion.

ONCEs’ Complaint on TWICE ‘READY TO BE’ comeback

Some fans agreed with the author of the post, wishing that the songs were longer to allow them to enjoy the album more fully. Some songs just needed to be heard longer, just like WALLFLOWER. This ONCE right here has something to say.

They expressed their desire to hear more of the members’ captivating vocals and appreciate their musical talent to the fullest extent. This could be the reason as well for some members to receive lesser exposure than others. They’re nine in the group, how possibly can we fit all of their lines in a less than a three-minute song?

On the other hand, other ONCEs mentioned that this isn’t just a problem with TWICE and their comeback. But songs, in general, have been trending towards the shorter side due to the culture of streaming.

The Impact of Streaming Culture

Streaming has had a significant impact on the music industry, affecting not only the way music is consumed but also the way it is created. With services like Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube Music, listeners have access to an endless library of music at their fingertips.

  • This has created a culture where songs need to be shorter and catchier to grab listeners’ attention quickly. Since streaming services pay artists based on the number of streams, shorter songs lead to more plays and, therefore, more revenue for the artists.

However, this trend towards shorter songs has led to concerns about the quality of music being produced. Critics argue that artists are sacrificing substance for the sake of popularity and financial gain.

  • Some fans also feel that they aren’t getting the full experience of the music when songs are too short. They feel that longer songs allow for more creativity and allow them to connect with the music on a deeper level.

Short and Sweet: A New Trend?

While fans may have concerns about the length of songs on ‘READY TO BE,’ it’s important to note that this isn’t a new trend in music. Shorter songs have been a part of pop music for decades, with some of the most famous songs of all time clocking in at just two minutes or less.

  • This trend is especially prevalent in K-Pop, where shorter songs are often accompanied by elaborate choreography and vibrant music videos.

The length of songs on ‘READY TO BE’ may be short, but that doesn’t diminish the quality of the music itself. The EP has been breaking records and proving once again that TWICE cemented its name in the K-pop industry.

While ONCEs may wish for longer songs to fully appreciate the members’ vocals, it’s important to remember that the length of a song does not determine its value or impact.
