US Gamers Spent $19.5 Billion In 2018 So Far; 40% Increase In Total Spending

The American market research company, NPD has recently reported on the video games market, players, spendings, best-selling games and the overall market growth.

According to NPD’s reports (via GamesIndustry.biz), this year, the US market has spent $19.5 billion on overall video game products so far. This marks a 40% increase in total spendings compared to last year. Hardware sales saw a boost of 21%, rising to $1.7 billion.

The first half of 2018 also saw a 43% year over year increase, with $16.9 billion in total revenue. Of all the contributing factors, like DLC, subscriptions and microtransactions, mobile gaming contributed most of it. Major contributors were games like Fortnite, PUBG, God of War, Roblox, Far Cry 5 and Candy Crush.

Additionally, Nintendo’s NES and SNES Classic Editions have been performing well, along with the Xbox One. Accessories sales have gone up by 41% compared to the last year, especially headphones and headsets, thanks to Fortnite and its atomic success.
