Valve’s Handheld Device, Steam Deck Pre-Orders Begin!

Valve's Steam Deck Prices, Features and more

Valve, the gaming giant which brought you Steam, has some very interesting news for gaming enthusiasts. They just announced the launch of a handheld gaming device that would be called Steam Deck. A device capable of running almost every AAA title on Steam!

Boasting a 7-inch display, the Steam Deck runs on a quad-core AMD Ryzen Zen 2 processor and is paired with RDNA 2 graphics. It has storage up to 512 GB and random-access memory of 16GB. The reservations for the device begin from July 16 and it will be priced at $399.

Features and Specs

Steam decks run on a tweaked version of valve’s SteamOS. Its interface is designed to enhance the ease of navigation. It has a 7-inch-high-definition touchscreen display and a refresh rate of 60 Hz. It also features an expandable I/O, Hi-Fi audio with built-in speakers, and wireless Bluetooth.

Steam Deck is powerful enough to run almost everything on the Steam store owing to its Zen 2 processor paired with RDNA 2 graphics. According to Valve, it can run up to 8 hours while light gaming and boasts a 40-watt-hour battery. In reality\, its battery-life would depend on the kind of games you play but the claim made by Valve does provide a rough idea about its battery efficiency.

Apart from powerful hardware, it has all the buttons a gamer needs as well as full-sized joysticks to provide you with an incredible gaming experience. Also, it consists of four buttons on the back which can be mapped to do whatever you want, according to your preference.

You can also attach a mouse, keyboard, or connect it to a monitor, making Steam Deck a fully functional computer. That aside, you can also download other software, app store, or even browse the web using it.

Availability

  • Steam Deck comes in three versions, namely, 64GB eMMC, 256GB NVMe SSD (faster), or 512GB NVMe SSD (fastest). Also, in case you’re looking for more space, you can augment your built-in storage with a microSD card and fill it up with as many games as you want.
  • Steam Deck is available to reserve from July 16, 2021, in select regions and will begin shipping in December 2021. The 64GB variant would cost $399, the 256GB variant is priced at $529 and the 512GB would cost you $649.
