What Role Nicholas Hoult May Play in Superman: Legacy? | Netizens React

Nicholas Hoult may join the new James Gunn movie, Superman: Legacy. If the recent reports have anything to go by, the Renfield star may play the role of the iconic DC Comics villain, Lex Luthor, following in the steps of the A-list stars Gene Hackman, Kevin Spacey, and Jesse Eisenberg. However, the young actor is reportedly just in talks to take the role, and nothing is sealed yet.

Nicholas Hoult May Be Next Seen as Lex Luthor

Deadline broke the news after several sources told the outlet that James Gunn might have found his new Lex Luthor in Nicholas Hoult.

According to the report, the director had been eyeing a movie star to play this role after picking David Corenswet to play the titular role of Superman, opposite the Emmy winner Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane. The two were selected after months of audition tapes and in-person screen tests before the actors’ strike.

Warner Bros. is said to want to go through the casting process after the SAG-AFTRA strike has finally reached a resolution with the AMPTP to choose the right actor who will be the next Luther. However, the studio has already been in business with Hoult on several movies, like Clint Eastwood’s Juror No. 2, and starred in the 2015 Mad Max Fury Road, which earned over $380 million at the global box office.

So, if this happens, Hoult will surely be a good addition to Superman: Legacy.

All about James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy

So far, only a few stars have been confirmed to join the film Superman: Legacy. Aside from David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan, the cast includes Nathan Fillion, Isabela Merced, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, and Maria Gabriela.

The five will play the roles of the DC heroes, Guy Gardner (Green Lantern), Hawkgirl, Mister Terrific, Metamorpho, and The Engineer, respectively.

Aside from Luther, Christopher Hoult was also said to be considered for the role of Superman/Clark Kent, but Corenswet ultimately won the part.

Written and directed by James Gunn, Superman: Legacy follows the story of a young Kal-El as he reconciles his Kryptonian heritage with his human life as Clark Kent. The filmmaker described the film as the “true foundation” of their creative vision for the DC Universe, which would include other movies about DC’s superhero team.

Aside from Superman, this group will include Authority, Batman, Supergirl, and Swamp Thing. The shows about the Creature Commandos, Amanda Waller, Booster Gold, the Green Lanterns, and the Amazons of Themyscira will also be connected to this film.

However, Gunn cleared that Superman: Legacy would be every inch a story about Superman despite the presence of other major DC heroes. It was just that these characters would fit the story he would tell, stressing in a post on Threads that “story always comes first.”

“The primary story most definitely revolves around Superman and Lois,” he said.

Netizens’ Reaction to Nicholas Hoult Possibly Playing Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy

As expected, a lot of fans can’t help but share their reactions to Nicholas Hoult playing the role of Lex Luthor in Superman: Legacy.

X (formerly Twitter) user @MyTimeToShineH, famously known for its assumptions about superhero movies and TV series, claimed that Hoult had already gotten the role even before the strikes began, and it wasn’t just finalized because “they had hammer out the contract.”

“The Skarsgard brothers and Cooper being on the shortlist was just in case things fell through with Hoult,” the post read.

Another claimed the British actor losing the major roles of Batman and Superman only proved that he was meant to play a supervillain origin story.

@DeeCeeGrayson added that Hoult was their top choice for Hush opposite Robert Pattison’s Batman, but seeing him being cast as Lex Luthor was on another level.

Though the portrayal of Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor isn’t confirmed yet, it looks like there’s a big chance that this will happen. The 33-year-old has played several roles in the past, though it will be the first time he will be seen as a major player in a big film, not to mention an iconic villain. With James Gunn at the helm, many expect it to be a great one, and Superman fanatics hope Hoult can give justice to his villainous part.
