Since 2016, the controversial activist Colin Kaepernick hasn’t seen action in the NFL. There could be a lot of reasons why Kaepernick isn’t playing in the league right now. Everybody knows that the 35-year-old quarterback is still actively looking to get back again on the field. But, just recently, a window of opportunity opened for Kaepernick. With Aaron Rodgers going down early in the 2023 season, this just became a chance of Colin Kaepernick to offer his talents in the NFL again.
J Cole shares Colin Kaepernick’s letter to New York Jets in a plea to join the team’s practice
On his official Instagram account, the Emmy-winning rapper J Cole shared a photo of Colin Kaepernick’s letter of intent to join the Jets’ practice squad. According to the artist, he asked the ex-NFL player to share this information but the athlete was reluctant. Later on, Kaepernick agreed. In his letter, the former San Francisco 49ers QB addressed the New York Jets GM Joe Douglas. Kaepernick offered his service and wanted to provide the team with an “elite” QB (referring to himself). It was clear that the 35-year-old football player did not want to take the starting quarterback’s spot. Instead, he requested to join the practice squad and would be honored to do so.

“Worst case scenario, you see what I have to offer and you’re not that impressed. Best case scenario, you realize you have a real weapon at your disposal in the event you ever need to use it,” Kaepernick wrote in the letter. “In either of these scenarios, I would be committed to getting your defense ready week in and week out, all season long, and I would wear that responsibility like a badge of honor.”
This news came out just right after the New York Jets signed veteran quarterback Trevor Siemian in hopes of keeping the Jets’ Super Bowl aspirations alive.
Earlier this month, superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers suffered a season-ending injury after just four clicks in the opening game of the 2023 season
Future NFL Hall-of-Famer Aaron Rodgers’s opening night for his new team, the New York Jets, didn’t go according to plan. In his debut as a member of the Jets, Rodgers injured his leg early in the game against the Buffalo Bills. Fans and players were even more shocked to hear how bad really Aaron Rodgers’s injury was. After a devastating incident, uncertainties are looming for the 2023 season and even his NFL career.
Just less than four minutes into the first quarter, star quarterback Aaron Rodgers appears to be in pain. The four-time MVP slowly falls down to the ground as he clutches his leg. Apparently, Rodgers injured his left Achilles tendon after just four plays.

According to the Jets, Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon after being tackled from behind by Buffalo Bills linebacker, Leonard Floyd. The legendary quarterback was helped off the field and exited the game early. Despite the unfortunate event, the Jets were able to hold their ground against the Bills as they secured victory in their first game of the season, 22-16. Unfortunately, Rodgers’s injury was so bad that he will be forced to sit through the 2023 season. With the 1-time Super Bowl champion’s absence, the mantle as the main quarterback was worn by 2021 2nd overall pick Zach Wilson, who so far, has been a disappointment.
Why is Colin Kaepernick out of the NFL?
Colin Kaepernick was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in 2011 and played there for six seasons. He had one great season when he helped the Niners reach the playoffs in 2014. However, almost seven years ago, in 2016, Kaepernick did a very controversial act on the field – kneeling during the national anthem.
It was said that this was his way of protesting the recurring police brutality in the black community. This would be met with a mixed reaction of support and criticism from everyone. However, little did he know, Kaepernick’s actions would be a precedent to his NFL career being cut short.
Colin Kaepernick is known to be a human rights activist and advocate
After the conclusion of the 2016 season, the Nevada standout sued NFL team owners for allegedly rejecting him and depriving him of employment. Well, since then, he hasn’t returned to the league and has received zero offers. Although, back in May 2022, Kaepernick had the chance to have a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders. We all knew he was not signed. There were rumors that he was sacked by the 49ers because he wasn’t fit for the new team system anymore. But, his political advocacies and controversial statements may have forced the NFL’s hand to shun the star quarterback. In 2021, Kaepernick created a Netflix documentary about his life. However, it sparked even more controversy after he compared the NFL to slavery.

In his six-season stint with San Francisco, Colin Kaepernick started in 58 out of 69 games. He was also pretty decent with a total of 12,271 yards, 72 touchdowns, and 30 interceptions with a passer rating of 88.9 and a completion percentage of 59.8 in his career. Despite not being signed to any NFL team, Kaepernick continues to train and is still working hard to earn a spot on any team.
