Will Adam and Eve be Nier: Automata Anime’s main villains?

PlatinumGames developed NieR: Automata game has been one of the most globally revered RPG games ever. Aniplex Online Fest 2022 revealed NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a  which is a Nier: Automata Anime adaptation. This Friday the latest promotional trailer unveiled two of the antagonists from the game, belonging to Branches A and B. Enter, Adam and Eve.

The venture of games into the realm of other mediums is hardly new. With the recent news brewing of a live adaptation of the famous The Last of Us, it should not surprise anyone that games have always inspired series, films, and novels. The way cinematic adaptations happen goes on to say a lot about how the world wants more of the same story.

What did we get in the latest teaser?

The latest trailer that we mention was released on the official website of NieR: Automata Ver 1.1a Anime.

  1. The television anime streamed a short promo trailer video on Friday that showcases the characters, Adam and Eve. The former is voiced by Daisuke Namikawa, infamous (and famous) for the eccentric Hisoka of Hunter x Hunter, along with Eustass Kidd in One Piece.
  2. Eve meanwhile is voiced by Tatsuhisa Suzuki known for his role as Ken Ryuuguuji in Tokyo Revengers and Ban in The Seven Deadly Sins. Alongside the trailer, Nier Automata Ver 1.1a also released a visual poster.

The beauty of Nier: Automata Anime adaptation and why fans are hyped over it

The history of NieR: Automata is green and rich and it is notably Square Enix’s finest published game ever. When rumors spread on the internet about the game spreading into the world of anime, people started losing their calm.

  • The primary question was how the producers and animators hoped for adapting the branching storylines of the original game. Now that’s one aspect of why fans are so excited.
  • Another angle is the fact that there is almost a cult-like following for Nier: Automata. The political angst of war between machines and androids creates a genius recipe for a masterpiece. Fans of Nier: Automata game often calls it their best game ever played.
    • As such, it is only expected that fans will be tear-driven to watch an anime adaptation of their favorite game. Primarily because the anime will bring to life the already established characters in a more visually fulfilling way.

The primary obstacle for Nier: Automata Anime in adapting the game

A fun way to see this is in this light – in the Nier: Automata game there’s more freedom for the audience. The audience being the players. The question of why the anime is so hyped if the game already exists is answerable along these lines. The anime will tell the story at the whim of the producers and writers.

  1. Although if freedom is all we need, even games are not totally free. Within the realm of the game, there exist plenty of limitations. But that’s one point where Nier: Automata provides much more freedom than many of its contemporaries.
  2. It’s primarily because the game changes its endings. Such changes happen to depend upon the dialogues you chose, the actions you took, the battles you fought, the locations you discovered, and the choices you made.
  3. NieR: Automata has 27 endings that are obtainable. These endings are named alphabetically as branches (A-Z) (26 branches) in the base game and 1 (◬) in the DLC.

Introducing Adam and Eve

  • Adam and Eve are both the antagonists of Branches A and B. Both of them are twin brothers. Where Adam is the smart, intellectual, calm one, Eve is the physically hyperactive one. Eve is the brawns whereas Adam is the brains.

The brothers share a deep bond, as ever since birth Eve has had a natural inclination to protect his brothers. In branches, A Eve appears twice, once in Chapter 5 and then in Chapter 10. Whereas in Branch B he is the final boss.

Given that the anime has introduced these characters, we can make an educated guess on which route/branch from the original game it will follow. As both Adam and Eve are on Route A and B, the anime could possibly follow these paths initially. Although these two may not the primary antagonists and only mid-season finale kind of villains.

The showrunners have already described that the Anime will follow a totally original route. This ending will be inspired by the game’s different endings. How Adam and Eve pan out in the anime is something to witness. How do you think Anime will adapt the game’s 27 different endings? Comment down below.
