Wriddhiman Saha Controversy Explained; What Happened?
Wriddhiman Saha, the wicket-keeper batsman of Indian cricket has been in current headlines. The squad for the Sri Lanka series has been declared and many senior players have been dropped from the squad, including Saha. BCCI gave KS Bharat a chance to be the backup wicketkeeper for the upcoming Test series.
Ganguly’s Promise and Dravid’s Suggestion
Saha said that the team management, headed by head coach Rahul Dravid, had told him to think about retirement. He had told media persons on Saturday:
“Yes, the team management told me that I would not be considered henceforth. I could not tell this so long as I was part of the India team setup. Even coach Rahul Dravid suggested that I think about taking retirement.”
“When I hit an unbeaten 61 taking a painkiller in the first Test against New Zealand in Kanpur last November, Dadi (as Sourav Ganguly was referred to by Bengal players) congratulated me over Whatsapp.
He even mentioned that I should not worry about anything as long as he is at the helm of the BCCI. Such a message from the board President really boosted my confidence. But I failed to understand why everything changed so fast,” Wriddhiman Saha vented.

Journalist Case
Wriddhiman Saha on Saturday night also shared a screenshot of messages he received from a journalist. Slamming the journalist, Saha wrote on Twitter:
“After all of my contributions to Indian cricket..this is what I face from a so-called “Respected” journalist! This is where the journalism has gone.”
Saha has received an outpouring of support from former cricketers who have expressed solidarity and urged him to reveal the journalist’s name. Former India spinner Pragyan Ojha, the Indian cricketers’ association representative, tweeted that “we will make sure our cricket community boycotts this so-called journalist!”
BCCI has decided to look into the matter and will take strict action against the journalist.
